What do we know about Stranger Things Season 5?

The season 4 finale ended on a cliffhanger as Max is still comatose, the Upside Down invades Hawkins, and Vecna is still alive. Thus, the heroes have their hands full in Stranger Things Season 5. We already know that something big is being planned for Jim Hopper. Actor David Harbour himself teased this in a September ScreenRant interview:

"I mean, it's so surreal... for me, reactions are always delayed. I almost couldn't process it. I mean, I can't tell you what our last day on set was, because it's a huge spoiler, but it was a very big culmination...and I couldn't believe that that was our last day. I was like, "Oh my god. They really did time it so that the biggest thing that happens in the series for him, in a certain way, is this moment." And so I was really focused on playing the crap out of that moment too. And then it just happens and it's just over. And I've known those guys, the Duffer Brothers, for 10 years, and we've been through so much together, and that cast and that crew, it's just like, it's really hard to process. It took me, like, another six months to really know how I felt to be honest. It really just just passed through so quickly. It felt very, very surreal."

But the most exciting aspect of the final season is that fans will learn more about the Upside Down. For the uninitiated, the Duffer Brothers created a 25-page document that explained the alternate dimension. While some lore is already known, we will learn more in Stranger Things Season 5.

“The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

As we wait for the fifth season, the previous four seasons are accessible via streaming on Netflix.
