Love Island UK season 12 episode 2 dropped on June 10, 2025, and featured the first elimination of the season. The whole thing was as unexpected as it could be because Maya Jama had announced a twist. She revealed that Shakira, who was left with no connections after the recoupling was done, will be given yet another shot at finding love and continuing in the villa.
Maya asked the men who were coupled up, if they felt more of a connection with Shakira than their own partners at the moment, to stand up. It started with Blu standing up and making it clear that he does not feel the same way for Alima as he feels for Shakira. Following suit, Connor stood up as well, leaving Helena worried about her position in the Love Island UK villa.
The third man to offer himself to Shakira was Harry. He was paired up with Sophie, and despite her trying to bond with him in the previous episode by revealing her whole story and how she was in a fire accident, Harry felt like it was too much for him.
Now, it was left to Shakira to choose which man he would pick for herself. It could be any one of the three, and this would ensure that she is safe from elimination. However, this would also mean that someone other than her is going home.
After being emotional over the whole thing, she ultimately chose Harry. This meant that his partner was left single. Maya announced that Sophie, who is now without a match, has to leave the Love Island UK villa.
Love Island UK Season 12 - What led to Sophie's elimination?
Sophie, in the first episode of Love Island UK, like the rest of the women, went through with a blind match. Here, the ladies had to select their partners based on just their dating profiles and nothing else. This led to her pairing up with Harry.
After they met, the two sat down to talk, and Sophie was upfront about what she wanted in her connection and her hopes from Love Island UK. She hopes to find a match and ultimately get married to them because she is 29 years old and wants to settle down. Later, Sophie also revealed that she is a burn victim and was caught in a fire accident when she was 22 years old.
This has led her to an emotional growth journey, where she had to work on herself to be better.
Talking about their match in a confessional, Harry said that he liked Sophie, but it was too much for him after understanding everything that she wanted. Fans were furious at him, but they also understood that she had confessed too much at the first meeting.
Now, in Love Island UK episode 2, a hot new bombshell named Toni entered the villa. This meant that there was one extra woman, and one of them would have to go. Ultimately, it all came down to Sophie having to leave.
Love Island UK season 12 drops on ITV at 9 PM. Later, the episodes are available to stream online via ITVX. As for the American citizens, they will be able to watch the new season via Hulu as it drops on the platform from June 12, 2025.
