Yellowstone might have come to an end, but the Duttons’ story is going to continue with multiple spin-offs, one of those being Y: Marshals. The series, focused on Kayce Dutton, was announced in March 2025, with Luke Grimes reprising his role.
Ever since, fans have wondered if any other cast members from Yellowstone will also reprise their roles in the upcoming show, especially when another spin-off focusing on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler is also in development.
Luke Grimes has now confirmed that the audience will get to see some familiar faces in Y: Marshals. At the same time, there will be a new set of characters as well, which will give the series a unique identity. The actor said in a recent interview with People Magazine:
“There's going to be some familiar faces, but there's going to be a lot of new faces too, so we'll see how that all feels.”
Luke Grimes says some familiar faces will return for the Yellowstone spin-off, Y: Marshals
Y: Marshals is going to follow Kayce Dutton's life after the Yellowstone series finale as he decides to join a team of US Marshals in Montana. The show will have elements of both Western and procedural dramas as Kayce uses his experience as a cowboy and as a Navy SEAL to fight crime and defend innocent people from violence.
Talking about how he signed for the spin-off, Luke Grimes said that when he finished filming for Yellowstone, he thought his journey as Kayce was over. However, just a few months later, he got the opportunity to play the part again:
“On the last day of shooting, I thought it was my last day as Kayce. It was over to me. It was seven years of playing a person that I'll never see again, except for having his hat and jacket in my closet. It wasn't until probably three or four months after that that everything started aligning for the [spinoff].”
At the end of Yellowstone Season 5, Kayce sold the ranch to the Broken Rock Reservation and decided to live on a small portion of the land along with his wife and kid. Grimes revealed that when he heard the idea about Y: Marshals, he thought it would be an interesting progression for Kayce's story after the original series, saying:
“We definitely wanted to make sure to give it a real story and make it interesting and make it believable. If it was just like, 'well, he's happy' — we're just going to watch him be happy? That's not very cool. But I'll say this, the idea that was pitched to me is very, very good and very interesting and it really roped me in and I think it will rope the audience in as well.”
As of now, Grimes is the only confirmed cast member of Y: Marshals, while an announcement about the rest of the cast is awaited. Instead of airing on Paramount Network like Yellowstone, the upcoming series will be aired on CBS and will be a part of the network’s 2026 mid-season schedule.
