I just finished watching Motorheads Season 1, and I already cannot wait any longer for the next chapter. With mysteries unfolding in the town of Ironwood one after the other (right from the very beginning), John A. Norris' latest coming-of-age drama has had me hooked to Prime Video for quite some time now.
I feel it has been a great journey for each character so far, and everyone is the protagonist of their own stories, not to mention how that intense, emotional Season 1 finale got me wondering what awaits the high-spirited 'Motorheads'. However, amidst all these, I took out time to pick my favorite character, and to be honest, it's not Caitlyn or Zac, or Harris.
According to me, the character arc of Marcel has been the best so far, and his evolution over just a span of ten episodes is noteworthy. Marcel, I feel, is a character who lives in others' shadows (to fit the creative approach), but his weird, humorous, witty, and passionate presence is what added more life to the show.
3 reasons why Marcel is my favorite among the Motorheads
(1) Marcel is socially awkward but loudly confident (with a smile)
Since the pilot episode of Motorheads, my eyes have been on Nicolas Cantu's character, Marcel Crawford, the moment he makes an appearance on screen. His first line (as his neighbor and friend Logan introduces him to Zac, Caitlyn, and Samantha) justifies his awkward yet confident aura:
"Yellow door. I gotta roll to work. Another day, another dollar. Am I right?"
It becomes evident that Marcel is not comfortable with his first encounter with the people who would soon become very close to him. But he has that confidence to own his socially awkward aura, and come up with a line that proves he is, so-called, fine. And when he realizes that he's just being his usual weird self, Marcel also has something like 'see you both at school' ready to clear the air.'
(2) Marcel is passionate about what he loves and is also a dedicated employee
Motorheads portrays Marcel as a young, passionate designer who likes to work with cars and explore his creativity. His love for the wheels is obvious, and as we see in the initial episodes, Marcel works his own design on the car that he gets from Caityn and Zac's uncle, Logan.
Besides, he also helps Brooke design the entire Homecoming Dance party's theme and comes up with the most exciting and lively ideas. While I think he's passionate about what he loves to do, Marcel is also a hard-working employee who earns his own pocket money by serving at the Diner that was taken over from his dad.
To further chase his dreams, Marcel applies for a design internship in New York, but Brooke makes the cut and gets the job. However, though it initially makes him sad, we soon see him bounce on his feet (on Zac's advice) and work on his own designs over the winter break.
(3) Marcel is a loyal friend and is always there for his buddies

Though Zac and Marcel's friendship kicks off with a rocky start, I feel it evolved most beautifully. When Zac forcefully races Marcel's car on the track and damages it beyond repair, the latter gets upset.
But after a lot of effort, Zac wins back Marcel's trust, and ever since, we see how the two have been close. Marcel is loyal to his friends (though he does not have a lot of them). From holding a spanner while Caitlyn works on her dad's car to helping Zac impress his love interest, Alicia, Marcel has always remained by the side of his friends.
Motorheads sees several complex relationships and heartbreaks, and one thing that I feel was always common in all of them was Marcel (as the one who consoles and supports). He also stays alongside Caitlyn, Curtis, and Zac as they work on Christian Maddox's yellow Challenger and is, as expected, the one to give it the final touch - and he makes it perfect! So I'm convinced that he is the most loyal friend and never abandons his 'Motorheads'.
(4) Motorheads portrays Marcel as witty with a subtle sense of humor
Marcel has quite some wit, and I believe his subtle sense of humor can only be perceived by those who match his wavelength. He is always there cracking jokes at the bad times, but always ends up lightening the mood.
He also has a subtle sense of humor, which clearly comes out in one of his dialogues in Motorheads Season 1 finale. As Zac and Marcel walk down the track, examining it before the big race against Harris, the latter expresses his concern over how he feels about moving out of Zac and Caitlyn's place (as his dad was coming back).
While consoling him, Zac says:
"Dude, you can crash anytime."
To this, Marcel replies:
"Well, maybe don't mention crashing while walking this road before you race."
(5) Marcel comes from a broken family in Motorheads, but I feel he is still optimistic about love and bonding
Marcel's mother left home when he was young and now lives in a place far away from Ironwood. His dad, who used to own the town diner, lost it over legal issues and currently sits idle at home.
So, very evidently, Marcel is all by himself and has to deal with his own stuff (with no adult to guide him). The only guidance he gets is from Logan and his friends, but that has never stopped him from believing in love and bonding. He cares about his dad and even earns extra money so that things do not get lean at home.
He also gets hopeful of reviving his relationship with his father before the big car auction in Ironwood (though it ended up badly). According to me, Marcel is someone who loves to have his close ones around him all the time.
He more than jumps at the opportunity of living with Caitlyn and Zac when his father was taken by the forces (because of vandalism). All these character traits make him a person who believes in love and is optimistic about it. Though his childhood has been difficult and his family is broken, Marcel never stops hoping for the best, and it's one of the major reasons why he's my favorite Motorheads character.
