HBO’s acclaimed crime drama, Mare of Easttown, premiered in 2021 and quickly became one of the most popular series of the year. The show follows the story of Kate Winslet’s Mare, who, while trying to deal with her personal demons, also investigates the murder of a young girl.

Created by Brad Inglesby, Mare of Easttown revolves around a small Pennsylvania town, where a recent murder has shaken the community and forced Mare to look into people closer to her, while also dealing with the grief of losing a son to suicide and a troubling divorce.

Here’s the cast and character guide of Mare of Easttown Season 1:

1) Kate Winslet as Mare Sheehan

Winslet plays Mare, short for Marriane, in the HBO crime series. She is a detective sergeant and is investigating the murder of Erin while also being forced to look into the disappearance of Katie. She is also fighting a custody battle with her son’s girlfriend for her grandson.

Winslet needs no introduction as she has been part of various superhit movies and shows, and has received numerous accolades for her performances. From playing Rose in Titanic to playing Clementine in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Winslet has been in numerous fan-favorite films that are part of pop culture classics.

2) Jean Smart as Helen Fahey

This popular veteran actress portrayed the character of Helen, Mare’s mother. Helen can be seen to be blunt at times when putting across her points, and is also revealed to be closer to Mare’s ex-husband, whose engagement she attends in Episode 1.

Smart is another popular name among the ensemble cast of the HBO series. She has been in TV shows such as Frasier, Fargo Season 2, and currently appears in the comedy series, Hacks.

3) Julianne Nicholson as Lori Ross

Nicolson plays the character of Lori in the HBO series. Other than being Mare’s best friend, she is also at the centre of the murder case as her husband was having an affair with the young girl, Erin.

Nicolson has appeared in Law & Order, Hacks, Dope Girls, and Hulu’s acclaimed series Paradise.

4) Evan Peters as Detective Colin Zabel

Evan Peters appears as Detective Colin in Mare of Easttown. He accompanies her in finding the missing girl Katie alive, and also develops a crush on Mare. However, his fate is one of the most heartbreaking in the HBO series.

Peters is known for playing various characters in the multiple seasons of American Horror Story and has also appeared in The Office. He is also known for portraying Quicksilver in multiple X-Men movies.

5) Joe Tippett as John Ross

Tippett plays John in the crime series. He is Loris’ husband and the cousin of Erin’s father. Due to this, his secrets about being involved with Erin make the death of the young girl more tragic.

Tippett has appeared in movies such as A Complete Unknown and TV shows such as American Primeval and The Morning Show.

6) Cailee Spaeny as Erin McMenamin

Spaeny’s Erin is shown as a single mother who loved her son. However, as a teenage mom, her life is difficult, which becomes even more problematic when her father thinks he is spending too much on her son, who needs an ear surgery.

Spaeny has appeared in movies such as Pacific Rim Uprising and Priscilla, among several others. She has also appeared in TV shows such as The First Lady and is set to appear in the popular series, Beef Season 2.

7) John Douglas Thompson as Chief Carter

Thompson plays Chief Carter in Mare of Easttown. He is Mare’s boss and also the one who asks her to reopen Kaity Bailey’s disappearance case.

Thompson is a popular theatre actor and has appeared in TV shows such as Law & Order and The Gilded Age.

8) Angourie Rice as Siobhan Sheehan

Rice plays Mare’s teenage daughter, Siobhan, in the crime series. She is close to her father and helps him in planning his engagement rib roast. She is also the last person who has seen Erin alive.

The Australian actress has appeared in the Spider-Man movies and also in Mean Girls (2024). In TV shows, she has appeared in The Last Thing He Told Me and Black Mirror, among several others.

9) David Denman as Frank Sheehan

Denman plays Mare’s ex-husband, Frank, in the crime series. Mare’s family likes Frank and even attends his engagement party. Furthermore, he is also among the men who are suspected of being involved with Erin.
