The TV series adaptation of Stephen King's beloved book, Carrie, is being adapted for television right now and will be streaming on Prime Video later next year. Directed by Mike Flanagan, Carrie will follow the story of the titular character, a young girl with telekinetic powers. Unfortunately, she is frequently bullied by her peers.

This ultimately leads to a bloody outrage at school during prom night, and the story takes off from there.

The titular character will be played by Summer H. Howell, and Matthew Lillard plays the role of Principal Grayle.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Lillard opened up about his experience working on the project, and he had only good things to say. Lillard has also previously worked with Mike Flanagan on other projects like The Life of Chuck, which was released in 2025.

Matthew Lillard raves about working with Mike Flanagan on Carrie, the series adaptation of Stephen King's popular book

During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Lillard spoke about his experience working on Carrie. He was all praises about Mike Flanagan and even went to the extent of calling him a great storyteller.

"Carrie's brilliant. Mike Flanagan – who I worked with on Life of Chuck – he is just the single greatest force of nature in this industry. We rehearsed for three weeks. He had plotted out every shot in the entire film. He had it down to the minute in terms of the amount of time it would take to shoot. He developed an app so you could see where they were in shooting. I mean, he's so prolific and profound and such a great storyteller. So that's the first thing."

During the course of the conversation, he even appreciated the fact that Flanagan stayed true to the actual story instead of making too many variations of his own, even drawing comparisons with the 1976 film by Brian De Palma.

"The second thing is the cast is incredible. It's three different sort of sections. It's the story Carrie written by Stephen King. It's really a pure adaptation of the book [more] than the original movie was. The De Palma film is really about sort of one aspect, but there's a lot that happens in the book that's been introduced to the show."

He further went on to appreciate the cast that made the show as commendable as it is, especially mentioning the younger section of the cast.

"The teachers and the parents are kind of the varsity level of actors, you know, old. It's just a way of calling the old actors. And then the kids...the kids are freaking brilliant."

Although there is no official date of release announced yet, it is confirmed that the show will arrive sometime in 2026 and will have eight episodes in total. Once released, Carrie will be available to stream on Prime Video.
