Andor Season 2 featured an electronic dance music sequence delivered by none other than Genevieve O'Reilly's Mon Mothma.

Before she becomes an integral part of the organized Rebel Alliance in Star Wars: Rogue One, she is barely managing to secure funds for the rebellion amidst her daughter's wedding.

In the culminating moments of Episode 3, a Rebel operative takes Tay Kolma away from the celebration, suggesting an end for Mon's childhood friend. And as her world comes crashing down from all sides, Mon gulps a few drinks and dances her heart out on the dance floor.

Mon Mothma's dance sequence in Andor Season 2 suggests that her sophisticated diplomatic veil is coming off, and that she is itching to be free from the events surrounding her.

More on Mon Mothma's dance sequence in Andor Season 2 in our story.

What does Mon Mothma's dance sequence in Andor Season 2 mean?

In a bizarre turn of events, Andor Season 2 Episode 3 saw Mon Mothma down some shots, let loose, and hit the dance floor with other dignitaries at her daughter's traditional Chandrilan wedding.

While seeing Mon break into a dance number on the DJ was surprising for Star Wars fans, who know her as the sophisticated senator and an integral part of the Rebel Alliance in Rogue One, it has a hidden meaning.

While the wedding itself is a union of convenience instead of happiness, as Mon is marrying her daughter to Davo Sculdun's son so that he would fund her rebellion against the Empire, many things are taking place behind the scenes.

Her childhood friend Tay Kolma, who once pledged loyalty towards her rebellion, is starting to blackmail her, and all her efforts to secure funding for her rebellion are coming apart. Amidst this chaos, Mon lets her hair loose and shakes on the dance floor, which highlights her diplomatic mask coming off.

It is very seldom that we see Mon's mask coming off, but her dance sequence in Andor Season 2 highlights how the chaotic things surrounding her are coming undone and affecting her like never before. And since most of these things are out of her control, what does she do? Down a few shots and dance like there is no tomorrow.

Mon's dance sequence underscores the fact that beneath her sophisticated senator's facade lies a woman who wants to let loose and be free.

Genevieve O'Reilly opens up about her character's dance sequence in Andor Season 2

In an interview with Mashable, O'Reilly discusses Mon ripping off her personality's facade and letting loose:

"We wanted to get inside her head somehow. We wanted to see the physical chaos. She was releasing ... in a way we've never witnessed before. She got to throw off the strictures of her physicality, and that says something about her."

O'Reilly understood her character's psyche and tried to depict the turmoil beneath that dance. While the viewer sees a woman drinking and dancing at her daughter's wedding, there is a storm unfurling inside her, as she discussed with ScreenRant:

''You can be wrestling with a pain, a personal torture or a chaos. And so what's so beautiful about that piece is that you can see dance or drinking, which might be celebratory to everyone else that's there, but actually she's dying inside.''
