Here is the brief recap of what happened in Moon River episode 13, ahead of watching episode 14
Episode 13 started with a long flashback explaining the life of Han-chul, suggesting how the current monstrous ruler was once a loyal soldier.
He once loved a woman named Jang-jeong and married her, vowing to protect her life always. He got a reputable position in the military and gained King's trust by nursing and hiding him in his house, saving his life. However, instead of a reward, he got to lose the most precious thing in his life, his wife. The king got obsessed with Jang-jeong. He took her away from Han-chul, and they both conceived a son, Lee Un.
The present timeline of episode 13 shows this son again reuniting with his mother, who is kept hidden in the mountains by Han-Chul. Years ago, Han-chul had saved Jang-jeong's life when the king decided to take her life, accusing her of adultery, to save his throne. Han-chul had ended up killing the king in fury and reinforced his rule over the kingdom. He further chose a politically safer king who remains dependent on Han-chul, maintaining his power. It was Lee Gang's father who took the throne.
The episodes ended with Lee Gang and Dal-i gaining enough evidence against Han-chul and arresting him, stopping the royal wedding from happening.
