In a shocking turn of events, Amazon Prime Video has canceled Motorheads after one season. The coming-of-age YA drama, which premiered on May 20, starred Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, Michael Cimino, and Melissa Collazo in the lead roles.
The drama series was certainly a hit among audiences (audience RT score of 94%) and debuted on Prime Video's Top 10 charts in its first week of release, a position that it still holds. Additionally, Amazon MGM Studios seemed happy with their bet on Motorheads and praised the show's high completion rates to Deadline, which makes the cancellation news even more shocking.
In an interview, Amazon MGM Studios’ head of TV, Vernon Sanders, said:
“We were just really wowed by the idea of the show. We were launching NASCAR this summer, and so having a show that actually spoke to fans of that genre [was an asset]. It was really just the characters. We feel like we lucked out getting into business with those showrunners as well.''
The series follows twins Zac and Caitlyn, who move to Pennsylvania with their mother and reconnect with their uncle Logan, a former NASCAR driver. The show explores themes of love and friendship, and Zac realises his passion for street car racing.

Motorheads could still find a new home- here's how
While Amazon has sadly canceled Motorheads after just one season, the network has permitted the producers to take it into the market. The creators have already started a conversation with other potential homes that would develop it for further seasons. Since it is quite rare for networks to allow their original series to find new homes, the series' future might see a drastic change ahead.
In an interview with Deadline, Motorheads executive producer Jason Seagraves remained hopeful about the show's future:
“We set out to make a show with no agenda and a lot of heart, to give families something they can watch together.''
He added:
“While Johnny and I are disappointed Motorheads won’t be continuing at Prime Video, we couldn’t be more proud of what the team created. Despite going into release with impossibly low audience awareness, our passionate and vocal fan base led the charge and made the series impossible to ignore. Their enthusiasm has energized us and we’re optimistic we’ll find a home that believes in and supports the show.”
It's tragic how the show resonated with the audience, but was still axed by the network. Fans of the show would certainly be disappointed after this cancellation news, particularly because it ended on a huge cliffhanger.
The Motorheads finale saw an important streetcar race between Zac and Harris. While the two were finally against each other to settle the score once and for all, Harris’s car ended up in a brutal crash, flipping multiple times and ending up in flames. While the scene was certainly terrifying, fans believed Harris could still have the plot armor and return for a sophomore season, which does not seem possible for now.
Harris’ fate was one of the most intriguing cliffhangers of Motorheads Season 2, but fans won’t get their answers, as the show has now been officially canceled. Interestingly, the cancellation news comes just as the series re-entered Prime Video’s Top 5 yesterday and now holds the No. 7 spot.
