Motorheads premiered on Prime Video on May 20, 2025, with all 10 episodes dropping simultaneously. The official synopsis of the show, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads,

“A group of outsiders forms an unlikely friendship over a mutual love of street racing while navigating the hierarchy and rules of high school.”

Following the arrival of Caitlyn and Zac Torres to Ironwood, Pennsylvania, to learn more about the death of their father, Christian Maddox, Motorheads establishes the town brilliantly as a real one. However, Ironwood is a fictional town, and Ironwood High School also remains a fictional addition to the town to make it more authentic and reliable as a backdrop for the story.

Ironwood High School is a fictional school in Motorheads

While the base location of Motorheads is Ironwood, it is not a real place and is a fictional town in Pennsylvania. The show’s creative heads decided to come up with this town, whereas the real filming location is Ontario province. It is an ideal spot for shooting as the place is equipped with scenic surroundings as well as modern landscapes.

An interesting thing about Ironwood is that it shares its name with a real town in Michigan. However, the two places differ quite a lot when it comes to their geographic characteristics.

Since one of the key parts of the drama is how the Torres siblings deal with their high school life, it is only natural that the creators have added a fictional school to the mix. The Ironwood High School, where Caitlyn and Zac Torres make their first set of friends and enemies, does not exist in real life.

As mentioned by Movedelic, the scenes that featured the outside views of the school must have been shot around the neighborhood of Ontario. For some of the interior scenes, they might have been shot in Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto.

However, to keep things as realistic as possible, the makers have ensured that the school’s name is visible at its entrance. Despite being a fictional school, it has a plaque that announces its name, thereby further integrating it into the storyline as a real part of the lives of the characters.

Given the little nuances that have been followed by the creatives behind Motorheads, it is only natural to wonder about the truth behind the existence of Ironwood and all that the town represents. Despite being a fictional town, its presentation has made it a realistic part of the storyline.

Motorheads can be streamed on Amazon Prime.
