The popular murder mystery series of the late 1980s, Murder, She Wrote, was one of the highest-rated and popular drama series on CBS. It narrated the story of Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury), a popular mystery writer, who lived in a remote town called Cabot Cove in Maine.

She often found herself around mysterious deaths, and she helped the police in catching the perpetrators by finding clues and always asking the right questions. She was smart and had a keen eye for finding out the little clues, due to which she had a love/hate relationship with the law enforcement employees with some giving in to her, placing herself amid the case, while others took time to warm up to her.

Lansbury’s Jessica Fletcher was the main character in Murder, She Wrote. As mentioned, Fletcher was a famous mystery novel writer with many superhit books and was a retired English teacher who lived in the isolated town of Cabot Cove, Maine. In the 12 seasons of the series, Fletcher was involved in solving various murder cases with her quick thinking and sharp mind.

Lansbury is a Hollywood legend and, apart from winning and getting nominated for her role in Murder, She Wrote, she has also appeared in several other TV shows and films such as Gaslight, The Manchurian Candidate, and The Picture of Dorian Gray, all three of which got her Oscar nominations.


2) William Windom as Dr. Seth Hazlitt

Remembered for his role as Matt Decker in Star Trek, William Windom has also appeared in To Kill a Mockingbird, The Twilight Zone, and Star Trek: New Voyages, among other acclaimed films and TV shows.

In Murder, She Wrote, Windon played the character of Dr. Seth Hazlitt, the doctor of Cabot Cove and also Fletcher’s best friend and supporter. He was always there for Jessica in her quest to solve the murders. Other than playing Hazlitt, Windon also appeared in the season 1 finale of Murder, She Wrote as a lawyer called Sam Breen.


3) Tom Bosley as Sheriff Amos Tupper

Another important character from Murder, She Wrote is Tom Bosley’s Sheriff Amos Tupper, who is the Sheriff of Cabot Cove and one of the employees of law enforcement who gave in to the curiosity of Fletcher trying to solve the murder cases.

Other than Murder, She Wrote, the American actor had a vast filmography which also included his various works in Broadway earning him a Tony award. From Bewitched, That ‘70s Show, to Father Dowling Mysteries, Bosley has also appeared in numerous hit TV shows.


4) Ron Masak as Sheriff Mort Metzger

After the exit of Sheriff Tupper, Masak’s Sheriff Metzger took his place in Murder, She Wrote. Metzger was in for a huge shock as he moved to Cabot Cove, thinking of spending his remaining life in a serene and harmonious place, after spending his life in New York, when he noticed that there were too many murders happening in the isolated town of Maine.

Apart from playing the character of Metzger, Masak also appeared as different characters in many other episodes of Murder, She Wrote, and also had roles in popular TV shows such as The Twilight Zone, Bewitched, Get Smart, and many others.


5) Louis Herthum as Dep. Andy Broom

Deputy Andy Broom is another of the main characters of Murder, She Wrote, who appeared in the series for the final five seasons. In one of the episodes in season 12, Broom also becomes a murder suspect, making Jessica’s task more important to help her old friend from being falsely accused.

Herthum is a known name in Hollywood and has had roles in popular shows such as Westworld, True Detective, The Mentalist, and Breaking Bad, among others.


6) Will Nye as Dep. Floyd

The American actor is known for his role as Deputy Floyd in Murder, She Wrote and has appeared in 15 episodes as Metzger’s original deputy. Other than the murder mystery series, Nye also had roles in Moonlighting and a film called Heart and Souls.
