Murder in a Small Town Season 2 Episode 3 recap: Maria Bannister's tragic death

Episode 3 of Murder in a Small Town Season 2 begins with Maria following her daughter, Belinda, who, for some time, shakes off the woman by hiding. However, Maria still follows her, and the two get to meet. Belinda is Maria's estranged daughter, with whom she wants to reconcile, but the girl rejects her efforts and leaves, informing her father, Richard.

Richard tells Maria about staying away from them, which breaks Maria's heart. However, she does not give up on her efforts, and after going back to her house, she begins writing a letter for her daughter, but is interrupted by the noise. As she goes to look in the living room, the killer attacks from behind and kills her instantly by snapping her neck.

This becomes the new mysterious murder case of Episode 3 that Karl Alberg needs to solve.

Murder in a Small Town Season 2 Episode 3 recap: The Bannister family becomes a prime suspect while Holly becomes interested in the Gibsons' past

Later in Episode 3 of Murder in a Small Town Season 2, Karl and the team begin investigating Maria's murder. They learn that she was visiting to meet her estranged family. Her scrapbook with photos of her daughter corroborates the information they discovered. However, a torn-out page from the scrapbook indicated foul play.

They learn that Richard Bannister is Maria's ex-husband and Belinda is her daughter, making the duo the prime suspects. As the police come to investigate, Richard tries to protect his daughter from them and later reveals that Maria had left their family five years ago due to an affair. Richard also revealed that Maria could be aggressive at times, adding more complexity to the case.

Elsewhere, Karl's daughter Holly begins exploring the town with her friend, Devon. As they stumble near the grave of Lauren Park, who died 20 years ago, Devon shares with her the story of 'Creeper', a person who has been paying for the grave of Park since it was created. This piques Holly's interest, and she goes to ask Cassandra about Creeper.

Cassandra shares with Holly that Lauren was one of her childhood friends, and the story of Creeper is most probably just a myth. Holly and Devon, still fixated on checking the truth about it, stake out at night, and to their surprise, they do see a figure visiting the grave, and Holly even captures the car's number plate.

Murder in a Small Town Season 2 Episode 3 recap: Maria's killer turns out to be her half-sibling

As the investigation progresses in Episode 3 of Murder in a Small Town Season 2, it leads Karl to call the owner of the car that Maria drove at the beginning of the episode, who turned out to be her friend, Callie Jarvis. Callie shares one of the most crucial pieces of information in the case when she reveals that Maria came back to the town to meet her biological father. Her father is revealed to be Captain Darcy Stewart, who, after learning of the death of his daughter, feels guilty and heartbroken for not spending time with her.

Elsewhere, Todd, a homeless man who is seen reading in the library, is bullied by teenagers, prompting him to pull out a knife at them. Cassandra calmly approaches and saves the incident from being a mayhem, as she talks to Todd. While Todd gets arrested, Karl discovers Maria's necklace from him. Karl also learns from him about a car following Maria around.

Further information about Maria's half-sibling, Harry Stewart, going bankrupt, and the confirmation of the car that followed Maria as his, made him the prime suspect. Harry killed his half-sibling for their family property. Karl then links the torn scrapbook page with Belinda being Harry's next target, and he quickly rushes to the Bannister house and saves Belinda from Harry. The police later arrested him.

In Episode 3 of Murder in a Small Town Season 2, Cassandra and Karl also encounter some friction in their relationship, as they both are busy with their work, but their trust in each other keeps them afloat for now.
