Episode 5 of NCIS: Tony & Ziva Season 1 had all the elements of being one of the best episodes of the procedural drama series. From an undercover mission to life-threatening circumstances for the team and a heartbreaking death, the episode had everything.
In Episode 5, Tony and Ziva, along with their team, plan to rescue Jonah Markham, the Interpol chief. Their plan takes them to the high-security Supermax Prison in Austria, where he was being held. While they successfully get in, the couple realizes that they have been tricked by the one they came to save.
While trying to escape the prison and go back to their daughter, who might be in danger, they also decide to leave one of their own, Henry, fighting and being killed by a prisoner.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva Season 1 Episode 5 recap- The couple disguises themselves to enter the prison
The episode of NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Season 1, begins with one of the most thrilling sequences as the team literally steals Martine’s plane. By disguising herself as a delivery driver, Ziva plugs the 9.4 malware into the prison security system, resulting in it giving them access to enter the prison with fake IDs.
With the help of the rest of the team, they learn that the Reigning Fire drones were located inside the prison. Tony, now disguised as a CIA personnel, surprises Jonah by appearing inside the prison. While they talk about Jonah still not believing about Henry and Martine putting him in prison, Ziva is warned about Martine coming into the prison.
In a shocking twist, it is shown that Jonah is the one who betrayed the couple. This mission was actually a trap for the team. However, with the help of Tony’s subtle message, the rest of the team are alerted and asked to remove their e-tags, so that they couldn’t be tracked.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva Season 1 Episode 5 recap- The couple is trapped in the prison
In Episode 5 of NCIS: Tony & Ziva Season 1, Tony and Ziva wait for their team to figure out a way to remove their e-tags so that Jonah would not be able to track them, and they could escape. While waiting, the duo reminisces about their NCIS days.
Elsewhere, Jonah suggests that they should use their daughter to use the couple further, which, surprisingly, Martien does not agree with. She tells him that she has a better plan than using Tony and Ziva’s daughter.
After the couple learn about the tag system being compromised, Tony fakes a seizure, resulting in the couple getting out of their cell. On the other hand, Jonah tries to activate the Reigning fire drones, but fails due to Lazar’s programming.
Lazar, an inmate in the prison, is revealed to be the one who created the drones for Graves, and after using the drones for his militia’s benefit and harming others, he blamed Lazar, which resulted in his being in jail. Jonah tries to convince the programmer to help them access his drones and take revenge on Graves for what he did to him.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva Season 1 Episode 5 recap- Henry becomes the casualty in the mission
In Episode 5 of NCIS: Tony & Ziva Season 1, Tony had to call Henry as a last resort and informed him about the whole trap set by Jonah and Martine. While he initially refuses to believe in it, a footage of Martine arriving in Budapest, he is convinced that Tony might be telling the truth.
With Henry’s help, the duo successfully get out of the prison, but are informed about Tali’s distressed message by Claudette. Tony and Ziva take his car to reach their daughter. However, before leaving, they witness Henry being trapped in a fight with Jonah, Martibe, and Lazar, but Tony chooses to go to their daughter, rather than help Henry.
At the end, Jonah is the one who stabs and later shoots Henry, killing him instantly.
