Netflix greenlights Why Did I Get Married Again? with Tyler Perry and Taraji P. Henson

Netflix has been giving some of the best comedy-drama films in recent years, and now it's time for Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Again? to hit our screens. This will be the third chapter in the popular film series, and Perry will not only serve as the director and writer, but also appear in the film.

Another exciting update on Why Did I Get Married Again? is that Perry has welcomed a large and impressive cast, with Taraji P. Henson taking on the lead role. Other returning and new cast members include Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Jill Scott, Everett Osborne, and many more.

As for the plot, Netflix hasn't revealed much, but the logline reads:

"The couples reunite in celebration as Marcus and Angela’s daughter prepares to tie the knot. After being apart for quite some time, they learn quickly that as much as things change, they stay the same."

The logline continues:

"Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them, they must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question, why did they get married… again?"

This suggests that the couples will be back on our screens, and this time, for a happy occasion: Marcus and Angela’s daughter is getting married. Initially, the reunion feels warm, but it doesn’t take long for old habits and familiar issues to emerge.

Tyler Perry to return in Why Did I Get Married Again? with a new female lead on Netflix

Tyler Perry's upcoming Why Did I Get Married Again? will be nothing less than a virtual treat for fans who enjoy comedy-drama films and have watched the first two installments. The story began in the first movie, Why Did I Get Married? in 2007, which introduced viewers to four different married couples, all longtime college friends, who handle love, betrayal, and forgiveness.

Every year, the group of friends will go to the mountains in Colorado for a week. However, the time they make is more than just having fun. It's time for them to be honest about their marital troubles and think about why they got married to begin with.

Following the success of the first film, Perry came up with the sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too? It marked the return of all four couples, but this time in the Bahamas. Though they love to reunite, their marriages face even more turmoil.

And now, the third film is titled Why Did I Get Married Again? which not only brings the old faces back but also features a new main lead, played by actress Taraji P. Henson. As explained earlier, Marcus and Angela’s daughter is about to walk down the aisle, for which the friends will reunite again.

Although several years have gone by and things appear different on the surface, how they behave and the issues they face seem almost unchanged. On top of that, they see something unexpected: their children are becoming just like them and repeating similar patterns in love and relationships.

This leads the parents to think about the role model they have provided the next generation - the lessons their marriages convey. Yet again, they are forced to look within and ask themselves the question: Why did I get married in the first place, and was it for the right reasons?
