The boys are getting on board for a ride of their lifetime in the first trailer for Boots, an upcoming Netflix series based on US Marine Greg Cope White’s memoir, The Pink Marine.
The show's trailer offers a look into its offbeat, irreverent humor as seemingly innocent teenagers are suddenly thrust into a world of manhood. It's a story set in the 1990s, when being gay in the military was against the law. So, the protagonist, Cameron Cope, tries to fit into this new, strict environment as a closeted young man.
The 13 Reasons Why star Miles Heizer plays Cameron, while the Conjuring film series star Vera Farmiga plays his mother, Barbara, and Liam Oh plays his best friend, Ray McAffey.
Let's take a look at what the trailer reveals about the show.
Boots on Netflix shows a coming-of-age tale unfolding in a strict military setting
The newly released trailer from Netflix sets the stage for a vivid, colorful world of Boots, which, in reality, seems anything but fun. It feels like a ground for torture of young lads, who might not be ready for the toll it's going to take on their mental and physical health. However, the series takes a more comedic approach to these teens trying to make sense of this situation.
According to Netflix, here's the show's official synopsis,
"BOOTS is a one-hour comedic drama that delivers an irreverent, offbeat take on the coming-of-age story. Set in the tough, unpredictable world of the 1990s US Marine Corps—when being gay in the military was still illegal—the series follows directionless, closeted Cameron Coper (Miles Heizer) and his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh), the son of a decorated Marine, as they join a diverse group of recruits."
It further reads,
"Together, this ensemble navigates the literal and metaphorical landmines of boot camp, forging unlikely bonds and discovering their true selves in an environment designed to push them to their limits. With sharp wit and plenty of heart, BOOTS is about friendship, resilience, and finding your place in the world—even when that world seems determined to keep you in line or leave you behind."
