Netflix Canada is all set to release one of its first-ever originals, Wayward, and its trailer has left fans on the edge of their seats. Starring Toni Collette and Mae Martin in leading roles, Netflix just dropped the first trailer for the show, and to put it mildly, the story seems to be gripping.
Wayward follows Toni Collette and Mae Martin, who play protagonists Evelyn Wade and Alex Dempsey, respectively. Dempsey is investigating the curious case of Tall Pines Academy, which is supposed to be a school for troubled teenagers. Wade, the leader of this academy, plays a pivotal role in the story as Dempsey investigates the school where children supposedly go, but something else comes out.
The show's official synopsis reads as:
"Created by Martin, Wayward is a thrilling and genre-bending limited series about the eternal struggle between one generation and the next, what happens when friendship and loyalty are put to the ultimate test, and how buried truths always find a way of coming to the surface."
Toni Collette looks chilling in the first trailer for Wayward, dropped by Netflix
While the entire trailer has left the audience buzzing with excitement about the arrival of Netflix's limited series, special mention should be made for Toni Collette, who looks exceptional in her role as Evelyn Wade, leader at Tall Pine Academy. Her spine-chilling dialogue delivery strikes a chord with the audience, as she speaks to a new troubled joinee, stating that she can't wait for the student to meet their new version.
Mae Martin, on the other hand, plays Alex Dempsey, a cop who recently relocated to the town of Tall Pine. While on the outside, the town looks peaceful and scenic, the internal story seems to be quite different, especially when it comes to Tall Pine Academy.
Dempsey gets in touch with two students who are desperately trying to escape the academy, and in doing so, are willing to cooperate in unearthing many dark mysteries happening within the academy and subsequently finding out the truth behind several missing teenagers.
The limited series will feature eight action-packed episodes as the audience watches Dempsey uncover the mysteries at Tall Pine Academy, and eventually, Evelyn Wade's truth.
Apart from playing a pivotal character in the show, Mae Martin is also the executive producer and co-showrunner of this limited-time series. Guest stars will include Patrick J. Adams, among other known faces.
Wayward will release on September 25, 2025, on Netflix.
