Netflix's latest K-drama, Dynamite Kiss, premiered on November 12, 2025, and has become a fan-favorite due to the unique narrative and its breaking of crucial rules of rom-com K-dramas. The series follows the story of Go Da-rim, played by Ahn Eun-jin and Gong Ji-hyeok (Jang Ki-yong). Their first meeting happens in Jeju Island, but the meeting becomes far from any love story that starts in K-dramas.

As their story gets more entangled with the introduction of Da-rim's ex-boyfriend, they begin faking a relationship, and end up kissing to keep their facade on. While the kiss is shown to be as magical as K-dramas tend to show, it breaks the usual K-drama norm. Most of the time, the kiss between the lead couple happens halfway or near the end of the drama, but Dynamite Kiss begins the love story of Da-rim and Ji-hyeok with a kiss, breaking the role.

However, this new narrative helps the K-drama further as the story gets more intriguing, making it a hit among K-drama fans already.

More on this in our story.

Dynamite Kiss: The lead couple's kiss in the premiere episode breaks one of the most important K-drama rules

When we talk about a K-drama love story, we expect it to be a slow-burning and gradually developing tale, where intimacy develops slowly. But Dynamite Kiss breaks this very rule by making the lead couple, Da-rim and Ji-hyeok, kiss in the very first episode.

In Episode 1, Da-rim is introduced as a struggling adult who is unable to find a job due to her panicking in the interviews, but tries to hide the disappointment behind her lively nature. On the other hand, Ji-hyoek is a hard-working and ambitious man and owns a management consulting firm. He later goes on to become a team leader of a TF team, where his and Da-rim's paths cross again.

But before that, Da-rim and Ji-hyeok met accidentally in Jeju Island, where her sister had sent her to keep her away from her wedding. After several coincidental meetings, Ji-hyeok and Da-rim begin pretending to be together in front of her ex, Jeong-gwon, who Ji-hyeok wanted to scout for a job. However, making Jeong-gwon believe in their lie becomes difficult, and in a moment of urgency, Da-rim kisses Ji-hyeok.

As they kiss, fireworks light up in the background, making it look like every magical kiss shown in K-dramas. However, in most cases, the moment comes after the couple has fallen in love, but in Dynamite Kiss, it's the opposite. The kiss starts the love story of the duo. After being smitten by the kiss, Ji-hyeok and Da-rim go on a date, but everything ends abruptly as Da-rim leaves Jeju in a hurry.

They meet again in Seoul when she joins his team in his office, and they try to resist the attraction they both feel toward each other, but fail. While the Netflix K-drama broke a crucial rule of K-dramas with the kiss, it was actually necessary for the story to move forward. The first kiss is what started the love story of Da-rim and Ji-hyeok, and it makes the show more interesting and compelling. Therefore, even with breaking an important rule, Dynamite Kiss shines with the engrossing story of the K-drama.
