According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Netflix's Western romance drama series Ransom Canyon has lost two series regulars ahead of its second season. Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who played the father-son duo of Davis and Reid, will not be seen in the sophomore season.
Ransom Canyon, based on Jodi Thomas’ book series, is written and created by April Blair. The series follows a romance-fueled family drama between three ranching dynasties locked in a contest to protect their land from outside forces and other ranching families in the rugged terrain of Texas Hill Country.
While the Netflix Western received mixed reviews from critics, it emerged as a streaming hit and climbed the platform's Top 10 charts in many countries. The series was renewed for Season 2 in June 2025 and is currently filming in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Ransom Canyon loses series regulars Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner
The charming father-son duo of Davis and Reid Collins will not return in Ransom Canyon Season 2, as both Macken and Liner have tapped out of the project.
Eoin Macken played the role of Ivy-educated owner of the modern Bar W Ranch, Davis, in Season 1. Davis was Staten Kirkland's (Josh Duhamel) brother-in-law and love rival, and the two men butted heads throughout the first season. While Davis was the brother of Kirkland's late wife, Amalah, their relationship was complicated because of the generation-long rivalry between their families.
The ranching rivalry between the Kirklands and the Collins family has seeped into Davis and Staten's relationship. In Ransom Canyon Season 1, while Davis wanted to capitalize on the water pipelines running beneath Ransom's ranch land, Staten was against it. In addition to this business feud, both men had also fallen for lavender farmer and dancehall owner Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), creating a further rift in their relationship.
On the other hand, Andrew Liner played Reid Collins, the star quarterback of Ransom High and Davis' 16-year-old son. As Lauren's boyfriend and the next heir to the Collin family ranch, Reid was arrogant. However, his character was way more nuanced than just an arrogant teen, and he certainly showed improvement in the second half of Ransom Canyon.
Davis and Reid’s characters added depth and intensity to the storyline, leaving a mark that fans will surely miss. Since Season 2 will continue to expand on the rivalry between the ranching families, it remains to be seen how the show will accommodate this casting change.
Who is in the cast of Ransom Canyon Season 2?
Josh Duhamel will return to lead Ransom Canyon Season 2 as Staten Kirkland, a stoic rancher who was reeling from a personal loss in the debut season. In addition to managing ranching rivalries in Texas, Staten also struggled with his undeniable connection and feelings for his family and childhood friend Quinn. While the two shared a strong bond, Davis' presence created problems for them.
In addition to Duhamel and Kelly, the returning cast for Season 2 includes Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman, Jack Schumacher as Yancy Grey, Garrett Wareing as Lucas Russell, and Marianly Tejada as Ellie Estevez. Casey W. Johnson's Kit was promoted to a series regular ahead of Season 2.
Ransom Canyon has also added two new faces to its Season 2 cast, namely Ben Robson and Heidi Engerman. Both actors will play recurring characters in the sophomore season. While Animal Kingdom star Robson will play the character of Oliver, a big-city love interest for Quinn, Candyman actress Engerman will appear as Sydney.
