Netflix has recently dropped a short teaser for its upcoming Nordic drama series Diary of a Ditched Girl, and the release date has been set for September 2025. The show has been adapted from one of Amanda Romare’s books, titled Halva Malmö, per Variety, and centers on a woman named Amanda (in her early thirties) as she struggles to find love in the modern world of dating.
Swedish actress Carla Sehn (known for her role in Netflix's The Åre Murders and Love & Anarchy) will play the protagonist alongside co-stars Zahra Aldoujaili and Malou Marnfeldt. Diary of a Ditched Girl is set in Malmö (one of Sweden's largest cities) and explores the pros and cons of matchmaking in the contemporary world through apps.
Diary of a Ditched Girl premieres this September on Netflix
According to Variety, the story has been crafted by Tove Eriksen Hillblom, who is known for her previous contributions to the TV world (Inte OK! and Solsidan being some of her works). She has been joined by another Swedish author cum screenwriter, Moa Herngren, who has also worked on projects like Bonusfamiljen and Sjölyckan and has also penned several hit novels.
Jarowskij is at the helm of Diary of a Ditched Girl, per Variety, with Susanne Thorson in creative direction alongside Emma Bucht. As announced by Netflix in the newest teaser, Diary of a Ditched Girl will be released on September 11, 2025. The official synopsis of the drama series, per IMDb, reads:
"Amanda, 31, navigates the complexities of modern dating through apps and bars, meeting diverse men. She and her friends struggle to move beyond first dates as they explore the dynamics of finding love."
The latest teaser of Diary of a Ditched Girl opens with a sequence showing two different time stamps on the same screen - in the first one, our protagonist Amanda is seen to have matched with a guy named Markus on one of the dating apps, and the second one features a moment from the morning after the first date.
We witness Amanda asking the obvious question to her potential love interest/date:
"Talk to you soon, right?"
However, the guy opposite her (Markus) stares at Amanda with confused eyes, which prompts her to ask him if anything is wrong. To this, Markus replies:
"No, it's just the light."
Amused by his statement, Amanda questions back, saying what is wrong with 'the light?' However, Markus' response to this comes with a heartbreaking revelation. He says that Amanda looked 'much better' during the night when it was dark. But it does not feel right (or perhaps she does not look as expected to him) with 'the daylight' shining.
The teaser of Diary of a Ditched Girl ends on a sad note with Amanda's facial expression going from excited to disappointed and heartbroken in a fraction of a second. Moreover, the clip also quite justifies the title of the show. In the modern world of dating, where online matchmaking is one of the main media for meeting new people, Amanda tries to survive and make her way past the first encounter.
The drama series chronicles the life of Amanda and some of her friends who are also facing the same problems in their love lives. The theme of Diary of a Ditched Girl makes it evident that finding the right person to date in the present scenario is not that simple.
