Just two weeks before its cancellation, The Equalizer aired an episode that was supposed to serve as a backdoor pilot for a spin-off series starring Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz. The two appeared as a father and daughter in the show with connections to the CIA.

However, the spin-off was not picked up by CBS and was dropped just a few days after the backdoor pilot aired in April. The Equalizer showrunner, Joe Wilson, has now revealed what the canceled series would have looked like.

In an interview with TVInsider, the showrunner said the spin-off would have been would have explored a father-daughter dynamic with the star power of Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz:

“That [spinoff] would’ve been fantastic. It would’ve been a father-daughter situation. Titus Welliver is a fantastic actor. Juani Feliz is a star. She is a rising star, and we were looking forward to getting to see her kick a** and unpack all the lies that happened over her whole life.”

Further talking about how the spin-off would have looked compared to The Equalizer, Joe Wilson said it was going to be set in Atlanta. It was different from the original show as it waa set to focus on the relationship between Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz’s characters as they fought crime:

“I don’t want to say a better version of what we’re doing. It just would’ve been a different version of seeing them foster their relationship as they continue to equalize where that was going to be. It was going to be in Atlanta. And so it would’ve been fun. It would’ve been more of a different type of family dynamic.”

The untitled spin-off was reported to be in development in November 2024. On April 20, 2025, The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 16, Sins of the Father, was billed as a pilot for the new show. Welliver appeared as Elijah Reed, a CIA operative on the run from his agency, and Feliz played his adoptive daughter, Samantha Reed.

Meanwhile, CBS has also canceled the mothership series after five seasons. The crime drama starred Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, a former CIA agent and single mother who patrolled the streets of New York City as a vigilante and brought criminals to justice.

The original series premiered in 2021 and also featured Tory Kittles as Marcus Dante, Liza Lapira as Melody "Mel" Bayani, Lorraine Toussaint as Aunt Vi, Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah, and Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian. The series finale aired on May 4, 2025.
