“Hopefully people like it”: Scream star Matthew Lillard confirms his casting in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

After days of speculations, Matthew Lillard has confirmed that he has landed a role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The Disney+ superhero series is a revival of Netflix’s Daredevil, and premiered earlier this year after much anticipation.

Lillard, known for his roles in films like Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's, has been cast in an undisclosed role in the show, which stars Charlie Cox as the titular character.

Lillard confirmed the development in an interview with Comicbook.com, revealing he has a small role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which could be advanced if the audience likes his character:

"It’s kind of a small role right now, but hopefully people like it, and they bring him back in some capacity."

Matthew Lillard joked that now that Marvel is going to be mad at him for giving out information about his Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 casting. He maintained that he can not talk about his character or give out any spoilers as Marvel has a strict policy against it:

"It’s Marvel, so nothing. I think that Marvel clamps down even harder than Star Wars, but I will say I am in the universe."

Reiterating that he does not like spoilers in films or shows, Lillard said he does not even watch trailers:

"I really dislike [spoilers]. I don’t watch trailers. I saw [Marvel’s] Thunderbolts*, and they had a trailer for Thunderbolts* in the theater. I’m like, ‘What are you doing? I’m literally in the theater and you’re showing me the trailer to the movie I’m about to see!’ So look, I don’t like it."

Apart from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Lillard has two exciting films in the pipeline as well. He is returning to the Scream franchise with its seventh installment, scheduled for release next year.

He is also reprising his role as serial killer William Afton in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, which will arrive in cinemas by the end of this year. Lillard had a message for the audience about his upcoming ambitious projects and said:

"Five Nights [2], I think is going to be rollicking good time, Scream [7], a horror movie in that environment, is awesome. Save Daredevil for your TV and your setup at home, but get your ass out and go sit and enjoy a night out amongst the people."

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will continue the story of Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities who serves as a vigilante in the streets of New York City. It remains to be seen if Matthew Lillard will play a superhero in the show or a common man.
