Is Robin Roberts returning to GMA? What we know as host addresses being absent from her morning show

Broadcaster and co-anchor of Good Morning America, Robin Roberts, is taking some time off to be with her wife, Amber Laign. A few days back, Roberts shared an Instagram post, where she posted a photo with her wife and wrote:

“We’re in #Rwanda as guests of @inmuwetrust_ & @giantsofafrica celebrating young basketball players across Africa. Every last Saturday in the month in Rwanda is a national day of service!! Wonderful way for the two of us to celebrate 20 years as a couple…it certainly has been an adventure!”

Her absence from GMA seems temporary. On July 30, The Independent published a report stating that Roberts will be back on her show by the upcoming week.

Amber Laign also shared a video on Instagram where she discussed celebrating 20 years together with Robin Roberts. They marked the special moment in Rwanda with a group called Giants of Africa, along with young people from 20 different African countries.

She wrote that they danced, helped in the community, and felt deeply moved by the experience. For them, the trip was a reminder that what truly matters in life are things like connection, purpose, and helping others. She felt very thankful to be part of such a meaningful celebration.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the couple got married in 2023. In another video where the couple was seen dancing with a bunch of other people, Robin Roberts wrote:

“No matter where we are in the world…she hears music and she’s just gotta dance! Never a dull moment with this one.”

Robin Roberts says why she calls her wife “Sweet Amber”

In 2023, Roberts sat down with Sherri on her show and reflected on her relationship with Amber Laign. Sherri showed a few photos that the GMA host captured while Laign was asleep. When asked if she always clicked such photos, Robin Roberts said she did, and this time she caught her again.

She explained that Laign usually wasn’t too happy when she woke up and saw the photo posted. However, Roberts thought it was just too cute not to share. The same year, Roberts explained why she called her wife “Sweet Amber.” In an interview segment on GMA, she said:

“How did I start calling her Sweet Amber and it's so organic like much of our time together has been just it just kind of happened. When I met Amber, I was still grieving over the loss of my father who had died and not even a year before.”

Robin Roberts went on:

“And then to be diagnosed in 2007 with breast cancer and Amber didn’t even bat an eye. You know, she could have bailed. Early on in the relationship, no one would have blamed her. And I think at that moment, the name, ‘Sweet Amber.’ I would just kind of gently softly say it to myself.”

Robin Roberts talked about her wife and said that what made her special was her kind and honest nature. She said Amber was always just herself and didn’t try to pretend. Amber also shared that among everything that made her heart feel happy, one was Robin calling her Sweet Amber.
