Most Wanted: Teen Hacker - Max's upcoming docuseries on Finnish hacker Julius Kivimäki gets release date

Max is gearing up to tell the true story of infamous Finnish hacker Julius Kivimäki (also going by the name Aleksanteri Kivimäki) this fall as the upcoming docuseries Most Wanted: Teen Hacker gets an exciting release update. On September 5, 2025, HBO Max will exclusively air the true crime show that will revisit one of the most infamous hacking cases in the history of Europe where investigators had to turn every stone to catch teenage criminal Kivimäki.

Award-winning Finnish producer cum director Sami Kieksi is at the helm of the project alongside Aller Studios, and Joni Soila has written the script. According to Kieksi's recent statements, per WB, Most Wanted: Teen Hacker will portray how detrimental "the consequences of cybercrime can be". To quote his exact words:

"This is a story that could not be more topical. The consequences of cybercrime can be very serious and substantial. I hope that the documentary series provokes discussion about cybersecurity and how seriously it should be taken."

Most Wanted: Teen Hacker will premiere on HBO Max this September

The upcoming four-part docuseries Most Wanted: Teen Hacker will drop each episode every Friday starting September 5. As already confirmed by multiple sources, the show will feature exclusive interviews with investigators, SWAT officials, hackers who operate on a globally, FBI agents, as well as individuals who had fallen prey to Julius Kivimäki's cybercrimes.

Viewers across multiple continents, including the United States, Southeast Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America will be able to stream Most Wanted: Teen Hacker as per respective time zones. As confirmed by director Kieksi, the docuseries' creative team has worked alongside cybersecurity experts as well as recognized faces from journalism background, including:

  • Brian Krebs
  • Mikko Hyppönen
  • Allison Nixon
  • Joe Tidy

The main subject of Most Wanted: Teen Hacker Aleksanteri Kivimäki is currently serving his sentence of six years and three months imprisonment as per the verdict given by Finland's District Court of Western Uusimaa. His crimes also involve coercing the emergency landing of an American passenger aircraft.

Moreover, Kivimäki was responsible for the 2014 PlayStation cyberattack that affected the gaming access of millions of users around the world. From wide-scale data breaches at psychotherapy centers of Vastaamo to plotting attacks on the families of federal agents, Kivimäki's crimes knew no bounds.

According to reports, Kivimäki had started operating at the mere age of thirteen and carried on for four years until the 2014, when he was finally taken into custody. The upcoming HBO Max show Most Wanted: Teen Hacker will also revisit the chronicles of several FBI agents who had worked tirelessly to catch one of the most dangerous cybercriminals the world has ever seen.
