This Psych actress is turning heads with her casting in the Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue

Boston Blue has generated immense excitement even before its release as the Blue Bloods spin-off continues to add some talented actors to its cast. In the most recent development, actress Maggie Lawson has joined the show as Sarah Silver, a superintendent at the Boston Police Department.

Lawson is not new to playing a police officer, as she previously starred as Detective Juliet "Jules" O'Hara in the USA Network comedy drama Psych and its sequel film series. Meanwhile, Boston Blue is already confirmed to feature Donnie Wahlberg in the lead role.

Wahlberg will be reprising his role as Danny Reagan from Blue Bloods, who takes a new step in his career by moving from New York to Boston. The spin-off series was announced by CBS in February this year.

Maggie Lawson joins the cast of Boston Blue

Maggie Lawson is going to play the Boston Police Department superintendent Sarah Silver in Boston Blue. As per Variety, Sarah has been described as a strong-willed and decisive police officer, who is:

“Well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family.”

The spin-off is going to follow the journey of NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, who joins the Boston Police Department. At his new office, he teams up with Lena Silver, who comes from a family of police officers, just like Danny’s family. The two have to solve some high-stakes cases in the city and protect citizens from criminals.

Sarah is expected to be the step-sister of Lena. Other confirmed cast members in the show include Star Trek: Discovery actress Sonequa Martin-Green, who will play Lena, and The Crow actor Ernie Hudson, who will star as Reverend Peters, Lena’s grandfather.

Maggie is known for playing Jules O'Hara in the Psych TV series from 2006 to 2014. She later reprised her role in all three Psych films. The rest of her acting credits include the shows Inside Schwartz, Family Rules, It's All Relative, Two and a Half Men, and The Ranch.

Boston Blue marks the first spin-off of Blue Bloods, which aired 14 seasons on CBS and finished airing in December 2024. Fans of the show were disappointed with its conclusion and demanded its return, after which CBS ordered the spin-off in February 2025.

The original series starred Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Len Cariou, Will Estes, and Bridget Moynahan. Except for Donnie, none of the original cast members have been confirmed to appear in the spin-off yet.

Boston Blue is expected to premiere on CBS this fall.
