Netflix's latest Mexican thriller, No One Saw Us Leave, premiered on October 15, 2025.
Directed by Samuel Kishi, Lucia Puenzo, and Nicolas Puenzo, this series is based on Tamara Trottner's memoir Nadie nos vio partir.
It follows the life of a young mother, Valeria, fighting for the custody of her children, Tamara and Issac. After being stuck in a loveless marriage for years in Mexico, Valeria finds love and solace in Leo's brother-in-law, Carlos.
Unfortunately, when Leo comes to know about her extramarital affair, he decides to leave and take their kids. He moves all across Europe to avoid getting caught. For two long years, Valeria fought for her children despite her community's backlash. She teams up with Elias, a former Mossad agent, and Carlos helps her, too.
Valeria finally gets to meet her children when Leo settles with them in a kibbutz in Israel. Naturally, Valeria files for the custody of the children in the court in Jerusalem. The court orders them to relocate to Mexico while asking the children to stay back in Israel until the final verdict to minimize trauma.
When Leo leaves Israel with Issac and Tamara, Valeria panics. But turns out, he didn't want to elope anymore, but to give a stable life to his children. Finally, he hands over Tamara and Issac to Valeria.

Is No One Saw Us Leave based on a true story?
As stated earlier, No One Saw Us Leave is based on Tamara Trottner's autobiography Nadie nos vio partir. It gives us a glimpse of Tamara Trottner's childhood, where she and her brother were separated from their mother for almost three years. Both Tamara and her brother were taken away by their father and were taken all across Europe so that their mother couldn't track them. For years, they spent eloping from France, to Italy, to South Africa, and finally to Israel.
As per the book description, Trottner writes (via Penguin Random House),
"I just turned five. This day will mark the end of my childhood."
This coincides with a scene from Episode 5 of No One Saw Us Leave, where just a day after Tamara's fifth-year birthday party, Leo, on the pretense of a two-day vacation, decides to elope with the kids. He wanted to seek revenge on his wife by taking the children away, and his family helped him with it. But little did they know that this move would ruin the childhoods of two innocent lives forever.
Tamara and her brother were stuck between the battle of ego and the revenge of their parents. Did they deserve this? Absolutely not. They were the innocent victims of their parents and their powerful families' clashes. In the end, even though Leo made the ultimate sacrifice and gave Tamara and Issac to Valeria. His sacrifice or Valeria's relentless battle couldn't undo the children's trauma, woven into the very fabric of their childhood.
The series ends with a message,
"Issac and Tamara didn't see Leo again until 20 years later. Valeria and Carlos stayed together for the rest of their lives until Carlos passed away in 1997. Tamara is a writer. In 2020, she published the novel No One Saw Us Leave based on the journey that kept her away from her mother for years."
Even though the main plot of the story is based on Tamara Trottner's memoir, the series did take some creative liberties to highlight the emotional and dramatic impact.
Speaking to Que Leer Libros about the book, she explained,
"Nobody Saw Us Leave is a story inspired by true events: on my fifth birthday, my father kidnapped me and my brother to get revenge on my mother. For two years, we traveled the world visiting three continents and our perceptions of life, childhood, love security were coloured by this experience."
Where is Tamara Trottner now?
