Suits LA’s cancellation has been drawing mixed reactions from viewers. While some fans saw it coming, others believe the series deserved another chance as the story was just starting to get exciting.

NBC canceled the series on May 9, 2025, with only two episodes remaining in the first season. At the time, the network did not reveal the official reason behind the decision, leaving people to speculate.

NBC’s president of programming strategy, Jeff Bader, has finally talked about why the network decided to axe the Suits spin-off after only one season. In a media briefing, the executive said the show could not resonate with the audience contrary to their expectations, and they did not see potential for growth in its ratings:

“Suits: LA had a very short run, but it really has not resonated [with audiences in] the way we thought it would. There can be many, many reasons why it hasn’t resonated, [...] but it’s just not showing the potential to grow for us in the future, unfortunately. Those are the decisions we have to make.”

Elaborating on the move, Jeff Bader said that NBC had to make some tough decisions after analyzing the performance of Suits LA, along with shows like Lopez vs. Lopez and Found, which have also been canceled.

The executive revealed that the team looked at the linear as well as the streaming viewership of these programs on Peacock, and had to end the ones that did not show any growth potential:

“We have to look at the performance of the shows, both on linear and on digital. We have to see the ones that looked like they had growth potential in the future.”
“We’re looking at how stable they are in their linear performance, how stable they are on digital, which ones are growing, which ones are declining. And we had to make some hard decisions.”

Suits LA premiered on NBC in February this year and received negative reviews for not properly establishing characters and featuring frequent flashbacks. Unlike the original Suits, the spin-off failed to grab eyeballs, and the ratings dwindled with almost every episode.

Even bringing back fan favorites like Harvey Specter and Louis Litt could not revive the series, and it was ultimately canceled. Set on the West Coast, Suits LA tells the story of Ted Black, played by Stephen Amell, a former prosecutor who runs a law firm in Los Angeles, but is betrayed by his business partner and close friend, Stuart Lane.

The show also stars Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins, Bryan Greenberg as Rick Dodsen, Josh McDermitt as Stuart Lane, Maggie Grace as Amanda Stevens, Rachelle Goulding as Samantha Railsback, Troy Winbush as Kevin, Alice Lee as Leah Power, Azita Ghanizada as Rosalyn, and Carson A. Egan as Eddie Black.

Suits LA series finale will be aired on NBC on May 18, 2025.
