Only Murders In The Building Season 5 is finally heading to its finale and we are very close to finding out what happened to Lester and Nicky. The penultimate episode opened right in the aftermath of a shocking discovery, as the trio learned that it was Randall who ran off with the bloody elevator crank.

Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Episode 9 began with the trio questioning Randall when he physically ran away from the scene. With their last hope gone, the trio abandons their search.

Mabel, Oliver and Charles deal with parting with the Arconia in their own ways. While Oliver can’t bring himself to pack, Charles musters up courage and looks for alternative housing options. On the other hand, Mabel abandons her search and accepts Jay Pflug’s invitation to spend time at his Maldives place.

What brought the trio together again? Did they catch Randall?

Here is the complete Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Episode 9 recap.

Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Episode 9 recap: Robo-Lester to the rescue

With Randall gone, the trio lose all hope and abandon their last murder investigation. However, when Detective Williams expresses her disappointment over Mabel’s decision, things change. The duo notice a secret passageway in one of the casino’s walls and find shocking things inside. Firstly, they see a framed picture of Randall he posted on social media, where he is pretending to be in Cuba. Secondly, they discover that the passageway is connected to the dry cleaner’s next door and it is clear that the killer transported Nicky’s body through this passageway.

Looks like there is still hope for the trio in Only Murders In The Building Season 5 and they all reunite in the building hall to continue their search. While the trio are discussing the advancements in the case, Robo-Lester announces a delivery for 6-C, an abandoned apartment in the building. This could mean only one thing: that Randall is squatting in the building.

While Robo-Lester leads the way and unsuspectingly delivers Randall’s food to him, the trio finally catches him.

Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Episode 9 recap: The trio makes a shocking discovery

Now that the trio nabbed Randall in Only Murders in the Building Season 5 Episode 9, they asked him to confess to Lester’s murder. The doorman denied murdering Lester but revealed that he withheld evidence from them only on Lester’s orders. While it was difficult to confirm Randall’s story from a dead man, Robo-Lester came to the trio’s rescue again. Robo-Lester revealed that he managed to upload previous data from his predecessor even after the fall and proceeded to show them a recording from the night of Lester’s death.

The recording shows Lester holding the bloody elevator crank and asking Randall to deliver Oliver’s wedding shrimp to him. That was the last time Randall saw Lester alive and since he suspected that Lester had likely killed Nicky, he hid the bloody elevator crank to save him.

While this truth partly cleared Randall’s name in Only Murders In The Building Season 5, the trio still had a killer to catch. The trio and Howard were back at Mabel’s apartment when they noticed unusual scuff marks near her fridge, which (as Howard revealed) were from a specific mobility scooter.

This scooter reveal made things crystal clear for them and they finally realized who stole the finger. The final moments of the penultimate episode saw the trio accusing the Caccimelio grandmother of this deed, while she swore to them in Italian. Did she murder Lester and Nicky? Why did she steal the finger? Guess we will find out in the finale.

Charles and Oliver shared an emotional moment in Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Episode 9

In addition to the ongoing murder investigation, the latest episode in Only Murders in the Building Season 5 featured an unlikely emotional moment between Charles and Oliver. While the trio were struggling to part ways with Arconia, it was the hardest on Charles, who had nobody in the outside world to return to. He decided to skip the farewell celebrations and instead look for housing options and hobbies for the future.

However, Oliver misunderstood Charles’ aversion to the farewell party as his indifference and blamed him for not caring about his feelings. The two finally had a heartfelt conversation and realized they are equally upset about leaving the Arconia and each other. In a wholesome moment, Charles asks Oliver to sign his apartment’s doorknob for him as a keepsake.

Tune in to the Only Murders In The Building Season 5 finale on Hulu on October 28.
