Outer Banks cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the Netflix teen drama?

Outer Banks on Netflix has been a runaway hit since its Season 1, which premiered on the streaming platform in 2020. The series follows a group of teenagers, who refer to themselves as Pogues, looking to uncover a lost treasure. The ensemble cast of Outer Banks includes Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, and Jonathan Daviss.

Outer Banks is set in a fictional coastal town in North Carolina, where the residents are socially divided. The lower-income group are referred to as Pogues, and the wealthy affluent people are called Kooks. The series follows a group of Pogues who come together to look for the missing father of their group’s leader, John B., played by Chase Stokes.

The series explores themes of adventure, romance, friendship, and family amidst betrayals and secrets. Outer Banks is created by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burk. The series has received about 200 million views. The fifth and the final season of the teen drama series is currently in development and is slated to premiere in 2026. As per Tudum by Netflix, the creators shared about the final season.

A glimpse into the Outer Banks cast

Chase Stokes as John B. Routledge – John B is the Pogue leader who comes from the Cut, the lower-income side of the Outer Banks. He will take the help of his fellow Pogues after his father goes missing. His father was trying to find the shipwreck, the Royal Merchant. John B also went on to fall in love with Sarah Cameron. Along with his role in Outer Banks, Chase Stokes is also known for his performance in Tell Me Your Secrets, Uglies, and Valiant One.

Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron – Sarah comes from a wealthy family. Despite her background, she becomes entangled in the mystery around the treasure along with the Pogues. She went against the wishes of her family to be with John B. Madelyn Cline has appeared in other projects, including Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Vice Principals, The Originals, and Stranger Things.

Rudy Pankow as JJ Maybank – Childhood friend of John B, JJ is loyal to his fellow Pogues to the end. He has a difficult domestic life, especially to do with his alcoholic father. He often comes off as short-tempered, yet he is a quintessential survivor who is ready to navigate through any challenge life throws at him. Rudy Pankow’s other works include Painted Shores, The Crusades, and Uncharted.

Jonathan Daviss as Pope Heyward – Pope is the more guarded member of the Pogues, who sticks by his friends no matter what. During the treasure hunt, Pope came to learn about his ancestry, which he had no knowledge of previously. He also had a short-lived romance with Kie. Jonathan Daviss has also appeared in ventures such as Edge of the World, Shattered Memories, and Do Revenge.

Madison Bailey as Kiara “Kie” Carrera – Despite coming from a well-to-do family, Kie identifies herself as a Pogue as she renounces a lifestyle that mostly centers around one’s wealth. She would often hang around with John B, JJ, and Pope. She also reconciles with Sarah, with whom she had a falling out earlier. Madison Bailey is known for her projects such as The Painter, American Horror Stories, Black Lightning, and Time Cut.

Austin North as Topper – Coming from a wealthy family, Topper hates the Pogues. He initially dated Sarah, who decided to break up with him to be with John B. He even shows his jealousy towards John B by burning his house. Even though Sarah has moved on, Topper holds hope that she will come back to him. Other than Outer Banks, Austin North has also appeared in Beautiful Wedding, One Fast Movie, and All Night.

Carlacia Grant as Cleo – She first appeared in Outer Banks Season 2 as a member of the crew aboard a cargo ship. She helped the Pogues through some challenging situations. She will go on to develop a relationship with Pope, with whom she strikes a bond that started with friendship in Season 3. Carlacia Grant’s other works include The Resident, Game of Silence, and Roots.

Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron – Sarah’s older brother, Rafe Cameron, gets disowned by his father after he steals from his father to pay his drug dealer. However, he manages to get back in the good books of his father as he starts working alongside him, including going against Sarah for choosing John B. Drew Starkey has also appeared in Scream, The Other Zoey, Queer, and Hellraiser.

Charles Halford as John Routledge – The story of Outer Banks takes off after the disappearance of John. His son, John B, goes on to look for the Royal Merchant, which his father was searching for. In Season 2, John was found recovering in Barbados. Charles Halford is also part of projects such as The Righteous Gemstones, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Constantine.

Fiona Palomo as Sofia – Rafe’s romantic interest who works in catering. Along with Outer Banks, Fiona Palomo has also appeared in El Roomie, Journey to Bethlehem, and Control Z.

Charles Esten as Ward Cameron – Sarah and Rafe’s father, Ward Cameron is one of the wealthiest people in Outer Banks. Despite his initial appearance as a thoughtful person, he is a manipulative man who will go to any extent to keep control. Charles Esten has also been in projects as Nashville, Enlightened, The Office, and Big Love.
