Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Rory Alexander) is one of the most exciting additions in Starz's Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Murtagh might be Brian Fraser's best friend and second cousin in the show but seasoned fans recognize the character's worth in the Outlander universe. Played by Duncan Lacroix in the parent series, Murtagh is one of the most beloved characters who eventually learns about Claire's time-traveling powers.
While fans were waiting to see young Murtagh's lore in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, he was forgotten in the show's narrative. Murtagh's character was overshadowed in the messy storylines but he could likely get his due in the upcoming Season 1 finale on October 10.
After partly making amends with Brian in Episode 9, Murtagh will likely help his best friend unite with Ellen MacKenzie, the woman he previously loved.
More on this in our story.
Murtagh should get his due in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood finale
After living in Simon Fraser's shadow and pining for Ellen in his one-sided love, Murtagh might finally get the attention he deserves in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood finale. Seasoned Outlander fans who know Murtagh as Jamie's Godfather and a beloved character from the parent series were waiting for the spotlight to shine on him, but the moment never came. Between Brian and Ellen's forbidden love and Julia and Henry's time-traveling adventure, the prequel series forgot one of its beloved characters, but not anymore.
While the cousins were briefly parted, Murtagh saved Brian from the Glasgow assassins in Outlander: Blood of My Blood's penultimate episode, suggesting that he is still his best friend. With Murtagh and Brian back together, the powerhouse duo will likely save Ellen from her unwanted wedding to Malcolm in the finale.
Looks like Murtagh will finally accept his defeat and Brian's undying love for Ellen as he says in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood finale preview:
''Yours is the kind of love ye hear about in legends.''
To this, Brian replies:
''Which is why we must fight for it.''
And with this, the friends pick up their weapons and charge against their enemies. As featured in Outlander, Brian and Ellen eloped out of Castle Leoch on the latter's wedding day, following which, the lovers were found together at a crofter's cottage. While we know the result from Outlander, the Blood of My Blood finale will finally show the details and Murtagh's role in uniting the lovers.
While he was monumental in Jamie's safekeeping and his relationship with Claire was heartwarming in the parent series, he might finally get his due in the spin-off series.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 finale: Love and relationships at stake
Outlander: Blood of My Blood might have kept its fans waiting an additional week before the finale but the preview suggests that the final hour will be monumental and worth this extra wait.
In addition to Brian and Murtagh's 'Mission save Ellen', Julia and Henry will take on their harrowing journey. Claire's mother asked her husband to wait by Castle Leathers for her and their child in Episode 9, but her escape will be filled with obstacles. While Simon Fraser is determined to make Henry and Julia's son his heir and the future King of Scotland, Julia will be caught by Balloch. The final battle for love and relationships has a lot at stake and the lead characters' combined efforts will culminate in an epic finale.
Tune into the Outlander: Blood of My Blood finale on Starz on October 10.
