Outlander: Blood of My Blood - The story so far
The two-episode premiere of Outlander: Blood of My Blood transported viewers to 18th-century Scotland while introducing two parallel love stories: those of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, and Claire Beauchamp’s parents, Henry and Julia Beauchamp.
In the first episode, Ellen and her brothers, Colum and Dougal, mourned the death of their father, Red Jacob MacKenzie, at Castle Leoch. With no successor named, the clan had to elect a new laird, but tensions between the brothers rose quickly.
Meanwhile, Dougal wrongly blamed rival clans for a cattle raid. At Castle Leathers, Brian resisted attending the MacKenzie Gathering until his father, Lord Simon Fraser, ordered him to go with cousin Murtagh. There, Brian and Ellen met by chance in a stable and were instantly attracted to each other.
They later learned their families were rivals but agreed to meet again. Meanwhile, the Grants arrived with Henry, who was serving as their bladier. The episode ended with a flashback to the 1920s, where Julia and Henry, already married with young Claire, crashed their car in Scotland and stumbled upon Craigh na Dun. Both traveled through the stones to 1714 but were separated.
In Episode 2, Julia and Henry’s backstory was revealed. They met during the time of World War I as they wrote letters to each other. In 1714, Julia was captured and forced into servitude at Castle Leathers under the predatory Lord Lovat, while Brian risked punishment to protect her. Henry, meanwhile, used his legal skills to secure work with Clan Grant, gaining mobility to search for Julia. The episode ended with clan tensions rising after Dougal attacked the Grants.
