Amazon Prime Video's college comedy-drama Overcompensating, starring Benito Skiner and Wally Baram, has been renewed for Season 2. The series premiered on May 15, 2025, and has generated steady buzz worldwide. Season 1 received around 7.7 stars on IMDb and an impressive 93% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. As reported by Variety, series creator Benito Skinner, who also serves as a writer, actor, and executive producer, expressed his gratitude for the positive response. He said via a statement,

"I have been so overwhelmed by the insane response to the show, and feel so damn lucky to go back to Yates University with Amazon MGM Studios, A24, Strong Baby, and this legendary cast for Season 2!! PLAY SUPER BASS"

The story explores the life of Benny Scanlon, a high school football star and a freshman at the fictional Yates University. As a closeted individual, he works hard to maintain a macho male persona. His closest friend in college is Carmen, and together they navigate their first year. As their friendship deepens, Carmen becomes Benny's confidant, and he confides in him. Things become more complicated when Miles develops a bond with Carmen, and Benny also begins to fall for Miles.

How does Overcompensating Season 1 end?

Overcompensating, Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger. After Benny finds Carmen and Miles kissing, he lashes out at Carmen, and they argue. In the heat of the moment, Carmen indirectly reveals that Benny is gay, while Miles and Grace overhear their conversation. This leaves Benny utterly devastated and isolated.

The finale is crafted in a way that leaves viewers eager to see what happens next. Can Benny rebuild his trust with Carmen, his confidante? How will his friends and sister Grace respond to the intense argument and the shocking revelation? These are some of the key questions that should be explored in Season 2.

All episodes of Overcompensating Season 1 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
