Peacemaker star Frank Grillo drops an exciting Creature Commandos Season 2 update 

Peacemaker is a DC Universe superhero TV series that first premiered in January 2022 on HBO Max. It follows Chris Smith, aka Peacemaker, after the events of The Suicide Squad movie as he fights threats with dark humor and moral ambiguity.

One of the main characters on the show is Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo. He is first introduced in the animated series Creature Commandos, then moves into live action; in Peacemaker, he becomes a key figure in A.R.G.U.S. and has a complicated relationship with Peacemaker after the death of his son, Rick Flag Jr.

In short, Grillo said Creature Commandos Season 2 will feature Rick Flag Sr. continuing as a character on a mission, wrapped up in revenge and unfinished business with Peacemaker, with connections to other DCU projects like Superman.

Frank Grillo revealed that after Creature Commandos Season 1, his character, Rick Flag Sr., will appear not only in Peacemaker Season 2 but also in Superman. He says that Flag Sr. will be “on a mission” tied back to The Suicide Squad (2021) and that revenge will be a big motivating force for him.

In an interview with Techradar, he shared,

"Rick's on a mission (in Peacemaker season 2). "It's really one-sided because it has a lot to do with the death of his son, so he can't see the so-called bigger picture. By the end of that journey (in season 2), I think he'll be in a different place where he believes he's gotten what he needed to over the course of its eight episodes."

Grillo also clarified that Flag Sr.’s role in Peacemaker Season 2 will expand his character in live action after being introduced in Creature Commandos' animation. He told Inverse,

“Based on how things end in Peacemaker, in Superman, and in Creature Commandos, Rick Flag will be around for a while. I kind of liken him to the Sam Jackson character in the Marvel world"

The storyline involves Flag Sr. confronting Peacemaker, especially over the death of Flag Jr., where Peacemaker is held responsible. It also touches on how this fits into the broader DCU continuity.

As for Frank Grillo’s career, this transition strengthens his involvement in the expanding DC Universe. He was cast as Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos and later reprised that same role in live action for Peacemaker Season 2.

This shows trust from DC Studios and James Gunn in Grillo’s performance and his consistency across animated and live-action formats. It also places him at the heart of key story arcs (revenge, legacy, conflict) instead of a minor role.
