The Good Doctor alum Antonia Thomas has officially joined the cast of Dig. The upcoming comedy from Peacock has the dream team of Amy Poehler and Mike Schur behind it already, so it feels like a role that is tailor-made to accommodate Thomas's range.

According to Variety, Thomas has been cast in a lead role in the Greece-set series, which can be described as a workplace comedy. We will get to see archaeological digs and a secret buried deep. And yes, it's is somehow still going to be funny.

We will see four women who work at an archaeological excavation in Greece, and are each at very different points in their lives. When this team uncovers something with global implications, they get thrust into an international conspiracy. For Antonia Thomas, it's a chance to step into a character that's worlds away from Claire Browne on ABC.

Who is Antonia Thomas playing on Dig?

Thomas will be playing Clare, aka the site's head preservationist. She will be overseeing the lab and museum aspects of the excavation and is privileged. And that makes her far more comfortable in curated spaces than in the dusty reality of an active site. And trust us that friction will create a lot of comedy.

Real-world archaeology keeps challenging Clare's refinement. That tension feels very much in line with the Schur-Poehler brand where they contrast smart people in flawed environments, as the humor comes up from personality clashes.

Thomas is joining a cast that includes Amy Poehler, Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Fina Strazza. Laurie will play Neville, aka a traditional British professor clinging to the ideals of archaeology. Viswanathan and Strazzawill be two women trying to make sense of their profession despite their inexperience. Clare's authority and discomfort could make her the wild card.

Dig is one of Peacock's most promising new shows

Dig comes with some pedigree, we tell you.

Michael Schur and Amy Poehler created the series, as we mentioned before, and it is based on Kate Myers' 2023 novel Excavations. Myers is also going to be on board as an executive producer, alongside Schur, Poehler, J.J. Philbin, Morgan Sackett, Dave Becky, David Miner, and others.

Universal Television is producing.

This project is also going to be Schur and Poehler's first collaboration since Parks and Recreation, just by the way. Add in director Dean Holland, who frequently collaborates with Schur and will have a show that's well worth it!

For Antonia Thomas, this show will be part of a career pivot that's already been impressive so far. We say so because, beyond The Good Doctor, she's been on Steve McQueen's Small Axe, Netflix's Lovesick, Apple TV+'s Still Up, and Channel 4's Suspect. She's also got upcoming roles in the BBC's Two Weeks in August and BritBox's Agatha Christie's Tommy & Tuppence.

However, this one may be her most high-profile ensemble yet.

Dig will stream on Peacock.
