"People actually did not like me at all": The Amazing Race's Jonathan recalls watching the first episode of the show

The Amazing Race Season 37 finalists Ana and Jonathan finished the race in third place. The husband-wife duo has been one of the strongest teams in the competition. Because of navigational issues, they arrived third at their final destination.

In their exclusive interview with Parade, published on May 17, 2025, Ana and Jonathan talked about various things. It includes their performance during the race, elimination, initial reaction to seeing viewers' reactions to their participation, and more.

After seeing the first episode, Jonathan mentioned he was looking forward to seeing everyone's reactions. While he was excited to be a participant in the race, he had been wondering what everyone's first reaction would be.

"You want to be someone that is liked by the public. And so it was kind of funny. After our premiere party in Los Angeles, I went to Reddit because I was very much looking forward to this moment. And I was very surprised to find that people actually did not like me at all," said Jonathan.

During their Parade interview, Ana mentioned that some of the things that she and Jonathan witnessed on the show have been hard to "look back on." However, their being on the show and reaching the show's finale has been a "reminder" of how far they have come.

"It's always kind of bittersweet when you look back at the race. But yeah, at this point, we're kind of moving forward in this new kind of knowledge that we have," said Ana.

She also stated that there was nothing and no one that could have prepared the husband-wife duo for the "double experience." She was referring to being on the show and "loving all of that." Ana added that it was "very intense."

The Amazing Race's Jonathan recalled watching the first episode of the show. He said it was "very interesting." He talked about wanting to be someone who is "liked" by the viewers.

However, it was "kind of funny," as Jonathan mentioned. He recalled going on Reddit and seeing the initial reactions, which were people "not liking" him at all.

"I was mortified. So it's taken me some time to get used to that discrepancy between what I see from my perspective and what somebody from the outside sees," said Jonathan.

Listening to him, Ana added that after the "final edit", there are certain events that they recalled. Further in their interview, The Amazing Race star Jonathan talked about how he started watching the race with his mom.
