24 in 24: Last Chef Standing Season 2: The sixth episode started with new teams and more twists
The sixth episode of 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing Season 2 started with the sixth shift. Co-host Esther Choi mentioned that they were at the 15 and a half hour of the 24 hours.
Agreeing with her, co-host Michael Symon added:
"Two-thirds of the way there, Chefs. You all look exhausted, but now is the time to dig deep and stay focused."
Esther mentioned that after eight and a half hours, one of the chefs would win $75,000. Listening to the prize money, the cheftestants applauded and cheered. One of the chefs, Nini Nguyen, mentioned that there were eight chefs in the competition, and everyone was tired.
"One of the abilities of all elite chefs is the ability to work as a team. I don't care how great of a chef you are, no restaurant runs by itself," added co-host Michael.
He mentioned that the sixth shift would be about cooking as a team. The hosts mentioned that Chef Brian had divided the cheftestants into two teams. Fans must remember that Brian was the Golden Knife holder at the moment. Recalling how he divided the contestants into two teams, he confessed to the cameras:
"I did pick a really strong competitor, and I picked what I considered to be two weaker competitors. So now, I feel a little bit nervous because I'm looking at Nini, I'm looking at Stephanie, I'm looking Kevin Lee, and I'm looking at Gabe, like wild stack deck."
He added that with Golden Knife, he didn't expect to be making such decisions for his fellow chefs.
Further, 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing hosts explained the challenge. Each of the teams would work as a unit. Their task was to prepare a soup and a sandwich combo. The time duration for that would be 28 minutes. With Golden Knife, Brian was the captain, and his team would be starting first.
Later on, he was tasked with choosing the captain of the opposing team. For that, he chose Gabe. Reacting to Brian's choice, Nini Nguyen confessed that Brian knew that she, Kevin, and Stephanie would "lean" more towards an Asian profile. That was the reason why he chose Gabe, because he cooks Italian food. Nini referred to Brian's decision as "evil."
