Leah Sava Jeffries will invest a little more of Annabeth Chase into her as Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 arrives on Disney+ on December 10. The actress stated that Annabeth is slightly older than she was at the start of the first season and feels more vulnerable.

Jeffries has disclosed that she has collaborated with her cousin, who is portraying the role of young Annabeth in many flashback moments. According to Jeffries, it helped her have a deeper understanding of her character's backstory, which includes how Annabeth, Luke, and Thalia survived before Camp Half-Blood.

Jeffries says Annabeth is like a different person this season due to some loss and hardship. The audience of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will get to see a more open and candid nature of the demigod as she learns to trust Percy in newer ways.

How do flashbacks shape Annabeth in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 introduces emotional flashback scenes into Annabeth's childhood with Luke and Thalia. These scenes of young demigods fighting monsters in search of safety at Camp Half-Blood are strikingly fierce. Leah Sava Jeffries, who portrays Annabeth, worked with her cousin, playing young Annabeth, guiding her on movement and delivery.

For Jeffries, seeing her cousin perform helped her connect with the fear and struggle Annabeth had as a child. She went on to say that it helped her understand the character's plot development better. Rick Riordan (the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians) stated that flashbacks can provide an emotional aspect and explain to the viewers why Annabeth behaves as she does. The series presents these moments with striking intensity.

Annabeth trusts Percy more

One of Annabeth's most dramatic statements in Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is about Luke's betrayal. He has also gone to Kronos and is currently on the same page with him against Olympus, wherein he is attempting to enlist the services of Annabeth and Percy. He goes as far as to poison the tree of Thalia, which guards Camp Half-Blood, endangering the camp. Rick Riordan, the author of the series, told TV Insider,

“The ability to see the backstory of Thalia, Luke, and Annabeth before they arrived at Camp Half-Blood adds a great deal to the story.”

Annabeth finds it difficult to accept this fact for the simple reason that she still loves Luke and believes there is good in him somewhere. The introduction to the bad guy is already made with Percy, and it might last some time before Annabeth can be convinced. Leah Sava Jeffries says that the viewers will witness a beaten and helpless Annabeth who is going to face this betrayal, and this experience makes her journey even more complicated and transparent.

How does Annabeth handle Luke’s betrayal?

Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is the one where Annabeth Chase is starting to open up more to Percy, and with it, viewers will have a different perception of this storyline. In the first season, she was cold, stubborn, and nearly impossible to reach by the viewers. The new episodes provide reasons why she built those defenses.

Painful losses-Luke's betrayal and the loss of Grover and Thalia-make her completely alone at Camp Half-Blood. The loneliness eventually forces her to leap with trusting Percy and share feelings she's never allowed herself to share. According to Rick Riordan on TV Insider,

“Young Annabeth is just adorable, and seeing her confront monsters at such a young age really drives home how terrifying it must grow up as a demigod.”

According to Leah Sava Jeffries, audiences will find Annabeth more genuine and emotional. Her change also uncovers the person hidden inside the confident girl and deepens the twists in her journey.
