Three episodes in, Pluribus has Breaking Bad and Vince Gilligan fans hooked with its interesting premise. The post-apocalyptic drama revolves around romance and fantasy writer Carol Sturka adjusting to a new world.

Unlike the usual post-apocalyptic drama about zombies or a nuclear wasteland, this Apple TV sci-fi drama is set in a world where an unexplained alien mind virus has taken over the human race. Carol and a handful of people are the only ones who are immune to the hive-mind virus. As of now, Pluribus has set up an intriguing mystery regarding the hive-minded people and their plans.

What was the third episode about?

The third episode reveals that Carol learns even more details about the hive-minded people of the world. At the end of the episode, Carol realizes that she needs to be careful because the hive-minded people will take her words literally. Importantly, the hive-minded people have identified human wastefulness and have started curtailing it.

In the last act of the episode, Zosia and Carol have a conversation in which the former brings up Helen's memory, angering the latter. An angry Carol pulls the pin of the hand grenade (that she sarcastically asked for in an early scene), believing it to be fake. However, it turns out to be a live one, and Zosia throws it out, saving Carol, but getting injured in the process.

Carol manages to take Zosia to the hospital, where her condition is stabilized, and an interaction with another man, who is also a part of the hive mind, makes her realize that infected people don't understand sarcasm.

"The World just wants to help—which infuriates Carol. A heart-to-heart conversation ends with a bang."

Will Carol make peace with this new world?

Over three episodes, the writers of Pluribus have painted Carol as the mean-spirited one in her interactions with the hive-minded people. From a certain point of view, the hive-minded people seem to be nice and helpful. It seems that the virus has made humanity a lot more tolerant and nicer than people in real life are used to.

Thus, it seems that there are two distinct possibilities:

  • Carol and the hive mind come to an understanding about boundaries
  • They figure out a way to assimilate the immune people
"Picked up in a two-season order, “Pluribus” is a genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness. In addition to Seehorn, the series stars Karolina Wydra (“Sneaky Pete”) and Carlos-Manuel Vesga (“The Hijacking of Flight 601”), and guest stars Miriam Shor (“American Fiction”) and Samba Schutte (“Our Flag Means Death”)."

Binge the three episodes of the series on Apple TV before the fourth episode streams on the OTT platform.
