Pluribus has captured fans and the collective internet's imagination with the four episodes that have streamed. The Vince Gilligan series remains in conversation, be it through fan theories or debate about free will and collectivism. Then, there is also Gilligan targeting AI in the closing credits of the series, which has only won new viewers over.

The latest episode, which is also its fourth, sees Carol learn that the hive-minded people can not lie and that they have to be honest with her. This forces Carol to cross a line and try to get something out of Zosia. The synopsis for "Please, Carol", the fourth Pluribus episode, reads:

"Carol tests the boundaries of this weirdly honest world at the expense of her ego. Far away, a resolute individual learns he’s not alone."

The cliffhanger ending of the episode sets up the fifth one, "Got Milk", which streams early on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

What happens in the fourth episode?

The fourth episode, "Please, Carol", confirms that The Joining is not permanent. This mystery remained unanswered for the first four episodes, but it has been answered in the latest Pluribus episode. After admitting Zosia to the hospital, Carol learned that the hive-people can't understand sarcasm, and they will accommodate all of her needs in the previous episode.

In this episode, Carol learns that "The Joining" can be undone when Zosia refuses to answer whether it can be reversed or not. To get the answer, Carol steals the truth serum Sodium Thiopental from the hospital. At home, she tries the serum on herself and learns that it does make one more honest, and decides to try asking Zosia again.

Carol injects Zosia's IV with the serum and questions her about how to reverse "The Joining", but the latter collapses on the floor. As that happens, the hive-minded people try to revive Zosia, and the episode cuts to black. Now, the synopsis of the fifth episode suggests that Carol will continue finding out the way to reverse The Joining.

"Carol doubles down on her investigation—loneliness be damned. Meanwhile, howls in the night reveal a new source of danger."

The early release of the fifth episode has some hope for some breakthroughs in the upcoming episode of the sci-fi series. As we wait for the fifth episode, the previous four are available on Apple TV.
