Reacher has remained at the top streaming spots on Prime Video for quite some time now. Alan Ritchson has done more than justice to the role. And now, the Lee Child masterpiece is getting another spin-off show centering on Frances Neagley, a close associate and friend to our titular hero.

Neagley is a sharp ex-army officer with impeccable combat and investigative skills, but the character is not that developed in the OG novels by Lee Child. So, the upcoming Prime Video spin-off has great potential to build on her character and even give her an origin story.

Reacher and Neagley have always shared an awkward yet special bond, which we witness all throughout the Prime Video show. So, with the Neagley spin-off in development, there is huge scope for a brand-new story to reform one of the most promising characters of the Reacher universe.

Reacher is socially awkward, and Neagley is his voice at times - a good setup for a spin-off show

Jack Reacher is a drifter who does not like social ties, not to mention that even his family does not know his whereabouts. He likes to remain off the radar while traveling with a few bucks and a toothbrush.

For a guy like him, interaction with people is difficult. Also, he cannot express himself very well. But since Neagley and Reacher were in the same army unit for a very long time, the duo is funnily compatible. So, at times when he is not able to reiterate whatever is going on in his mind, Neagley can read the situation and say things out loud. And now it's worth mentioning the headstart to the creative direction of the highly anticipated spin-off.

Prime Video has already hinted at a bigger story for Neagley in the Reacher universe

Reacher Season 2 is an adaptation of Lee Child's Bad Luck and Trouble. It is the only novel where Frances Neagley is mentioned. So, the Prime Video show portraying her appearance in each chapter might be indicative of the fact that the upcoming spin-off has a bigger story to tell, probably the origin of Frances Neagley.

In Reacher, we have always witnessed Neagley as a support element who appears at the right time to help her old friend. But she also has her own history, and supporting the same, we have a statement from Maria Sten, which she made earlier in July.

Per Collider, the Neagley star mentioned:

"Neagley has a lot going on in her life. She has a history, and she has a life lived. She has some quite severe personal issues of her own that she’s grappling with. We just get to know her better and see her grapple with these issues."

She further added:

"For anybody who likes the character, I think it’ll be nice to get to know her a little bit better. And we have rounded up such a great cast for this season of Neagley. I’m just thrilled to get going and sink my teeth in."

The upcoming Prime Video spin-off of Reacher will have a major advantage from a storytelling point of view. Going off the books a bit has worked well so far for the character's development, and now, the creators will have absolute freedom to explore her arc.

Till now, she has been of assistance to her friend Reacher. But the new show might do the reverse and bring back Alan Ritchson's protagonist while painting Neagley's portrait, maybe even a mission together again?

Well, it remains to be seen. So far, a lot of speculation is coming from Reacher fans, but it is evident from most of the social media reactions that the show already has a creative head start.
