Prime Video’s upcoming limited series Joseph of Egypt has added a recognizable face to its already impressive cast. Navid Negahban, known for roles in The Night Agent, The Old Man, and Homeland, has joined the biblical drama in a recurring role, per Deadline.
Negahban will portray Khasekhemre, the Pharaoh of Egypt, also referred to as Neferhotep I. In the series, the Pharaoh is portrayed as a calculating yet troubled ruler whose recurring nightmares push him to seek guidance beyond his court. That search eventually leads him to Joseph, a prisoner with an unusual gift for interpreting dreams, whose insights change the Pharaoh’s outlook and alter the course of Egypt’s future.
The eight-episode drama, currently filming in New Mexico, stars Adam Hashmi as Joseph and is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios.
Created and written by Craig Wright, the project brings the Old Testament story to life, following Joseph’s betrayal at the hands of his brothers, his fall into slavery, and his remarkable rise to become second only to Pharaoh. The ensemble cast also includes Alexander Siddig, Babak Tafti, Daniel Peera, and Iris Bahr, with a large list of recurring actors supporting the expansive biblical story.

Navid Negahban’s addition to Joseph of Egypt marks a significant casting move for Prime Video, especially given his long list of roles across television and film. Audiences most recently saw him in Netflix’s The Night Agent Season 2, where he played a key figure in the political thriller. His work as Abu Nazir in Showtime’s Homeland and his appearance in Apple TV+’s Tehran also helped cement his reputation as an actor capable of commanding intense, layered roles.
In Joseph of Egypt, his role as Pharaoh Khasekhemre places him at the center of one of the most important turning points in the Old Testament story. The Pharaoh’s reliance on Joseph’s interpretation of his troubling dreams becomes the reason Joseph is lifted from a prisoner to a trusted adviser, setting the stage for his rise in Egypt.
The project is being led by Craig Wright, who serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Wright has experience with large-scale dramas, and here he is working closely with Dallas Jenkins, the creator of The Chosen, whose 5&2 Studios is co-producing alongside Amazon MGM Studios.
Jenkins’ first-look deal with Amazon has already secured Prime Video the streaming rights to all seven seasons of The Chosen, as well as spinoffs like The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls. That same agreement opened the door for Joseph of Egypt, which is part of Jenkins’ larger plan to build what he’s described as a biblical television universe, with future projects including a Moses series.
Production for Joseph of Egypt is underway in New Mexico, with Adam Hashmi leading the series as Joseph. The cast features Alexander Siddig as Jacob, Babak Tafti as Simeon, Daniel Peera as Reuben, and Iris Bahr as Leah.

Recurring roles include Dakota Shapiro, Tannaz Shastiri, Ruben Vernier, Amir Malaklou, Moran Atias, Necar Zadegan, Matisse Ratron-Neal, Shani Atias, and Siya Maleki, all filling out Joseph’s family and the royal court of Egypt.
Negahban’s casting underscores Prime Video’s push to bring high-profile actors into its faith-based projects. His film credits include roles in Kandahar, 12 Strong, and Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin, where he played the Sultan. On television, he is consistently chosen projects with international scope and political weight, making him a fitting choice to embody a Pharaoh troubled by visions and torn between tradition and change.
