The race to the Primetime Emmy Awards has finally begun, and the nominations for 2025 are officially in. Co-hosted by Running Point‘s Brenda Song and What We Do in the Shadows’ Harvey Guillén, the 2025 Emmy nominations were a mix of surprises and predictions.
While The Studio overthrew The Bear for having the most Emmy nominations for a new series, veteran actor Harrison Ford finally received his first Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Shrinking.
However, another show that rightly turned many heads at the ceremony was Netflix’s limited series Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story, created by Ryan Murphy and released in September 2024.
The limited series bagged a total of four awards at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Best Limited Series.

Primetime Emmy Award 2025: Ryan Murphy's Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story bags four awards
While there were naturally many hits and misses at this year’s Primetime Emmy Award nominations, Murphy’s 2024 limited series bagged a total of four awards, including Best Limited Series.
The other contenders in the Best Limited Series category are Adolescence, Black Mirror, The Penguin, and Dying for Sex. While people are already placing their bets on Adolescence—the breakthrough British psychological crime drama series that was the talk of the town lately—the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards might still surprise everyone.
Coming to the acting nominations, American actor Cooper Koch, who played the youngest brother Erik Menendez, was nominated for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series.
While Koch's Primetime Emmy nomination is deserving, he will be competing against fellow nominees including Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Jake Gyllenhaal (Presumed Innocent), and Brian Tyree Henry (Dope Thief).
In addition, Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny are also nominated in the Supporting Actor/Actress categories. They portrayed José Menendez and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, respectively, in the show.
Bardem will compete against fellow nominees Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent), Owen Cooper (Adolescence), Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex), Peter Sarsgaard (Presumed Innocent), and Ashley Walters (Adolescence).
While Chloë Sevigny was highly praised for her role in Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story, she will also compete against a talented group of actresses, including Erin Doherty (Adolescence), Ruth Negga (Presumed Innocent), Jenny Slate (Dying for Sex), and Christine Tremarco (Adolescence).
The limited series is based on the infamous 1989 case in which the Menendez brothers gunned down and killed their parents in Beverly Hills.
While the brothers were imprisoned without the possibility of parole, this latest nine-part series reignited interest in their case—making them newly eligible for parole. They are due to appear before the California Parole Board in August.
Speaking about the controversial renewed interest in the case, Murphy said in a statement:
“That was always the purpose of the show, to show different complicated points of view, but I thought really what it did about raising and asking questions about sexual abuse was very, very powerful.”
With Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story’s latest nomination streak at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, it remains to be seen how this will further impact their case.
The 2025 Emmy Awards will be held on September 14, 2025.
