Pro Bono Episode 2 recap: David makes a deal with Jung-in

From the start, when David entered his new office, in the basement of the law firm in Episode 1 of Pro Bono, he was disappointed and couldn't understand why Jung-in would send him there. In Episode 2, he realises that this might be her way of creating her stronghold in the firm and getting O&Partners into the public eye by doing these cases.

Therefore, he makes a deal with her. He tells her that he will work in the team for a year and bring the winning rate of the pro bono team to 50% from their current 20%, if she agrees to nominate him for the next justice candidate for the Supreme Court. Jun-in agrees, but only if he brings the winning to 70%.

He then goes to meet the client, who is a dog named Byeol, who follows him around even when he tries to keep himself away from her. He has to fight the case against Byeol's previous owner, who wants the dog back after abandoning her more than a year ago.

However, the current owner does not want to give Byeol back to them. The situation gets tricky when he learns that the previous owner is the daughter of a high-ranking official. Furthermore, he is up against Myeong-hun, an attorney who goes to illegal lengths to win his cases.

However, David also has a plan to sabotage Myeong-hun's strategies.

Pro Bono Episode 2 recap: David tricks the previous owner to protect Byeol

To fight for Byeol's ownership, David uses his connections and brings a former judge as an attorney in the case in Episode 2 of Pro Bono. This results in the current judge exiting the case, which David tells his team was a good thing, as the judge and Myeong-hun were friends and he would have favoured the previous owner in the case.

While they think that they might have found a way of winning, they learn that Myeong-hun has a witness who saw So-yeon, who rescued Byeol, throw the dog's collar away. However, So-yeon denies doing that, but David begins to suspect her and asks her to tell the truth. After pressing her a little, So-yeon reveals that she did throw away the collar as she saw Byeol's neck being injured by it. The owner had put a shock collar on Byeol, which would choke her whenever she tried to bark.

Therefore, she decided to throw it away and give it to the new owners, as taking her back would be torture for the dog. David then decides to use this information and demands a jury trial for their case. After revealing how the previous owner tortured the dog, they tried to persuade the jury, but without any evidence, their case was still weak.

David then uses his last resort and calls the previous owner's father, who orders her to take the case back, as if it were proved she tortured the dog, his reputation and job will be in danger. Therefore, when David asks if Byeol was her dog, the owner denies, resulting in Byeol being free and living with the current owner.

With this, David won his first pro bono case for the firm, with many more to come. The episode also revealed at the end that the man who gave David the box of cash was an acquaintance of Jung-in, hinting that she might be involved in David's career being destroyed.
