Pro Bono Episode 6 recap

Kaya's case and the initial verdict
The day of the hearing arrives and David represents Kaya in the courtroom. His sharp wit and powerful strategies are showcased in Pro Bono Episode 6. The defense claimed that her alleged pregnancy, as highlighted in Episode 5, was indeed true and Kaya had used it as a calculated move.
Medical tests confirmed that she had been pregnant before. But here's the shocking truth: Kaya revealed that she had been pregnant before, but not in the current marriage. Her kidnapper sexually abused her and impregnated her when she was 14. Thus, she was just a child subjected to violent crimes.
David said that it has nothing to do with her current state, hence the defense's argument is irrelevant. Here, he appeals to the emotional side of justice over facts. David seeks justice for Kaya, and surprisingly, the judge gives the verdict in their favor. He said that South Korea grants freedom and justice to all residents, even immigrants.
David and Gi-ppeum's interaction
After the verdict, David and Gi-ppeum were seen eating together. She asked David about what happened in the past. She might have expected him to come clean and hint at something along the lines of being framed. But she was soon disappointed because David did not clear the mist of suspicion. In fact, he seemed way too comfortable being vilified by his teammates.
The argument escalates and just when we thought that the relationship would improve, things turned bitter again.

A win is not always a win
Kaya's case is reopened by the opposition again. They claimed that Kaya had lived with her abductor for quite some time when the pregnancy occurred. After the hearing, the previous verdict was overruled and the marriage was declared invalid.
But David does not stop here and takes the matter to the Supreme Court. However, he clarified to Kaya that she shouldn't expect a win in this case. Kaya assured him that she expects nothing in return. Nonetheless, things don't get any better in the Supreme Court either; in fact, they turn worse. David files a petition for Kaya's asylum instead. That's all he could do in the matter. Maybe sometimes, justice isn't black or white. It's gray.
Pro Bono Episode 6 ended on an oblivious and emotional note. Gi-ppeum rushes to David and calls him innocent. Pretty sure, he is as confused as the rest of us! So what did she even mean? And what's the context? Let's find out in the next episode, set to air on December 27, 2025.
