Reacher Season 3, episode 5, was full of dripping action and tragic deaths. One of the major deaths of the episode, and perhaps the first tragic death of the season, is of Agent Steven Eliot ( Daniel David Stewart), who was brutally killed by Richard Beck’s bodyguard, John Cooper.

It was a shocking death for Sonya Cassidy’s DEA Agent Susan Duffy’s team, and she couldn’t even reveal the truth to his father while informing him about his death as it would blow the cover of her secret mission to investigate Zachary Beck’s Bizzare Bazar.

While Agent Guillermo Villanueva ( Roberto Montesinos) did kill John Cooper, the loss to their team was tragic.

More on this in our story.

In episode 5, Smackdown, Stewart’s Steven Eliot was pestered by Cooper for a cigarette since the previous episodes, which he declined. However, in this episode, he finally gives in and makes one of the most fatal mistakes by giving the bodyguard a cigarette.

While he was bringing the cigarette, Cooper took a swig of the rubbing alcohol that Eliot used to treat his wounds. Then, when Eliot brought the lighter to light his cigarette, he spat the alcohol on the flame of the lighter, burning Eliot. As he fell to the floor, Cooper ruthlessly stomped on his head, brutally killed him, and fled from there.

Eliot’s death was brutal and shocking for the audience as well as his team. However, his father is still unaware of the cause as Duffy lies to him about how his son died. She tells him that Eliot was following a tip they got for a cold case from years ago and met his tragic end.

She even mentions that he was an excellent agent and saved her life.

Not telling Eliot’s father how his son died might be impolite and disrespectful, but Duffy had a logical reason. She tells Reacher that she had to lie to finish this mission successfully. After that, she would definitely come clean when Jack tells her it might cost her her job. She replies that she doesn’t care about that and has to tell the truth to everyone.

More about Reacher Season 3, episode 5

Other than the tragic death of rookie agent Steven Eliot, another shocking death in the episode is that of the French maid of the Beck household named Annette, who is discovered to be an ATF spy. While Jack tried to save her, Paulie ultimately killed her.

The episode also revealed a significant twist: Quinn and Bizzare Bazaar were involved in a weapon smuggling racket rather than a drug racket.

With their determination stronger than before, Reacher and Duffy are ready to avenge and uncover the criminals after encountering losses and setbacks.
