After a rocky Season 7 that left fans questioning whether Rick’s portal gun had finally fizzled out, Rick and Morty Season 8 has not only redeemed itself but dominated the streaming space. The adult animation juggernaut has skyrocketed to the top of HBO Max’s global charts, outpacing James Gunn’s buzzworthy projects and sending other shows scrambling for Morty’s leftover breadcrumbs.

As of September 3, 2025, Rick and Morty is the number one favorite on HBO Max, based on FlixPatrol's stats. This is a global hit in Australia, Belize, Poland, and Slovakia. The U.S. was the only place where The Gilded Age was the queen bee. Even the last season of And Just Like That couldn't knock it off its throne. And the 1990 version of It was giving it a run for its money. But now, Rick and Morty's adventures are finally topping HBO Max US charts, too.

Rick and Morty Season 8 Episode 7, 'Ricker Than Fiction,' is the talk of the town as it features unexpected cameos from James Gunn and Zack Snyder. The most surprising aspect was that, partially due to this cameo, James Gunn's Peacemaker Season 2 is now at number two in the US charts.

Ironically, A cameo beats his own show. So, Adult Swim's show is keeping things fresh and messing with our heads like it always does. Is it not?

Season 8 is a major step up

Season 8 of Rick and Morty had its share of controversies, especially after Justin Roiland was fired for misconduct two years back. At the time, the show's quality drastically fell. But what we can agree on is that this year's season is a step up from the wobbly storytelling in Season 7. The former's voice cast, plots, and creative vision drew severe criticism from fans and critics.

The show has hit its stride again, with crazy comedy and touching moments between the characters. It has got all that satire and wild visuals that we love, and keeps giving us those addictive laughs we can't get enough of.

Long-time fans of the show will want to celebrate with a re-watch now that HBO Max has made all the episodes easily accessible. Some were annoyed that they had to wait a while after the Season 8 finale on Adult Swim to catch it on streaming, knowing that Season 3 of Smiling Friends will hit the platform just one day after its TV premiere in October.

But, you know what? Sometimes good things come to those who wait. And in this case, the buildup only made binge-watching more satisfying!

Will Rick and Morty have more seasons?

The show's renewed popularity is getting people talking about what's next.

Dan Harmon (one of the co-creators) has hints that it could go on forever if they keep coming up with new ways to marry funny sci-fi with the feels.

Now that Rick and Morty is killing it on HBO Max, it is showing everyone that it can still be big in streaming. It is even going up against prestige dramas, other nostalgic shows, and James Gunn's superhero world.

Alrighty, so now you can grab that Plumbus, turn on HBO Max, and dive into interdimensional mayhem with Rick and Morty.
