We know that Ironheart will also include comedy icon Sacha Baron Cohen in a mysterious role. His inclusion was first reported by Deadline in 2022, where it stated that he was cast as an unnamed character. But the same report also brought up the possibility that Cohen is playing the devil of the Marvel Universe, i.e., Mephisto.
Now, The Telegraph's review of the series, which it saw in its entirety, may have spoiled that Sacha Baron Cohen is indeed playing the role of Mephisto in Ironheart. Thus, we are just nearly 24 hours away from learning if this yet-to-be-confirmed reveal of Mephisto is real or not.
How did The Telegraph reveal that Mephisto is in Ironheart?
On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, The Telegraph published a negative review of the Disney+ Marvel series, Ironheart. In that negative review, author Keith Watson spoiled Sacha Baron Cohen's yet-to-be-named character as that of Mephisto. For the uninitiated, Mephisto in Marvel Comics is Satan, i.e., the King of Hell, who makes deals with people in exchange for their souls.
Keith Watson, in his negative review titled "Marvel’s Iron Man spin-off has all the adrenaline appeal of an HR assessment," revealed that Cohen is playing Mephisto in the series by stating:
"It’s been a while since the arrival of Sacha Baron Cohen has inspired anything other than an indifferent shrug. But he steals the show here – admittedly not difficult – as a pantomime villain version of that old favourite, the Devil, here going by one of their many noms d’evil, Mephisto. Foxily marrying Danny Dyer’s accent – we Brits are always the evil ones in this kind of caper – with Victorian-style face furniture, Baron Cohen’s Mephisto feels parachuted into Ironheart from an altogether higher camp planet, a hammed up slice of melodrama many worlds away from Ironheart’s weary stab at a cool urban milieu."
However, despite stating that Cohen is fantastic as Mephisto, Watson writes that the character's introduction is very late in the series:
"At the eleventh hour, Mephisto kickstarts the momentum of a show that too often gets bogged down in box-ticking emotional backstories and half-baked explorations of the potential ramifications of AI. If Mephisto had locked horns with Ironheart earlier, we might have had a show worth saving. Instead, it looks headed for the ever-mounting superhero scrapheap."
Thus, the revelation that Sacha Baron Cohen is indeed the devil in the MCU came uniquely.
What is the series about?
After Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri Williams is found to have violated some rules, which results in her expulsion from MIT. Desperate to prove herself, Riri gets involved in a life of crime by helping out Parker Robbins and his gang. But soon, she loses her faith in the gang and tries to stop him.
"Set after the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, Marvel Television’s “Ironheart” pits technology against magic when Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne)—a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world—returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka “The Hood” (Anthony Ramos)."
The first three episodes of the six-episode miniseries are streaming on Disney+. The final three episodes will stream on the platform on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
