In the premiere episode of Shetland Season 10, Colin Waite, the neighbor of Eadie Tulloch, informed the police about her death. She was found at the back of her house, tied and strangled to death. As the investigation began, it was discovered that the elderly woman had died days before Colin found her.

Initially, it was difficult to suspect who would have tried to murder a vulnerable woman, but as the investigation progressed, the list of suspects had too many names on it. Eadie used to be a social worker and was married to Sgt. Robert Tulloch. Therefore, learning about her death deeply impacted Sgt Billy McCabe, who knew and was close to Robert and Eadie before Robert's death, and was feeling guilty about not taking care of Eadie after his friend's death.

Elsewhere, Ruth and Tosh also hit a dead end when they did not find any drugs in the fishing boat that their informant Will Louden told them about, and Louden had also gone missing.

In Episode 1 of Shetland Season 10, the investigation revealed that several people in Eadie's life can be suspected of the crime. The DIs learned that no forced entry was made in the house, which makes them deduce that Eadie might have been lured into the back of her house, where she was killed.

One of the easiest suspects was David Powell, a known criminal who had also been to jail for housebreaking. In the interrogation, he revealed that he was friends with Eadie, therefore was in her house to fix her bathroom, and she had also given him her jewellery as payment, which no one believes.

Other than that, Ruth and Tosh also learn that Eadie had £400,000 in her bank account, which might also be a reason for the murder. As they interrogate her son, Ed, a poet who runs a pub nearby, they learn that he had not talked to his mother for more than a year and also that he was not aware of the money that she had, which would require more investigation to prove.

Other than the suspects who knew Eadie, the police also cannot let go of the outsiders who were living in Lunnswick. The Burnett family was living in Holiday Cottage in the village, and Chris Burnett was the one who shared with the police that he saw someone wandering around Eadie's house the night they arrived at the cottage.

The premiere episode ended with one of Eadie's neighbors, Lana Mair, who had dementia, setting fire to Eadie's house.
