Sirens on Netflix is one of those shows that puts its claws into you from the very beginning. It didn't even take us five minutes to know that we're in for a great show that isn't what it says it is.

The drama, the secrets, and the unmasking of facades make the show an absolute binge material. And now that the show is over, we've probably connected all the dots and made sense of the layers of the show. We've dissected each and every dialogue to reveal what the show was really trying to present to us.

But there's one thing that might not have crossed your mind while Simone pulled in all the attention. Sirens has rich people with their extravagant lifestyles and parties. And one of them was Ethan. Amongst all that rich people's politics, there was one thing we totally missed. Ethan’s fate was written clearly from the very beginning.

You know how sometimes you finish a show, and suddenly all those little throwaway moments start making sense? That’s exactly what happens when you replay Sirens in your head. Ethan’s whole storyline becomes different once you realize the writers were probably telling us what was coming. We just didn’t want to believe it.

So let's dissect all those little hints that prove Ethan's fate was sealed from Episode 1.

Sirens: Ethan was doomed from the start

First, Ethan was all smiles and charm when he showed up in Sirens. And that's when it felt almost… off. You know that gut feeling when someone’s trying too hard? He was too into Simone and even talked about forever. He also played the supportive partner, and all of it was too good to be true.

And after all this time, one thing we know is that in shows like Sirens, if someone seems that perfect, they're just not.

Second, the proposal wasn’t romantic. It was panicked. Ethan popped the question without seeming very genuine about it. He even confessed that it was Michaela who made him think about actually proposing to Simone. He had been with too many ladies, and now it was just "time" for him to "settle down," and what better choice than someone who'd forever be grateful to him for saving her from her mess and giving her a new (rich) life.

Third, Simone’s past made Ethan feel he could dominate her by making her feel like he "saved" her. That’s not love. Not even remotely. He just needed someone who would worship him, and he thought he could get that by marrying Simone because she comes from an economically weaker background and a dysfunctional family. Oh, and she also had a troubled childhood. Perfect choice for Ethan in Sirens.

Fourth, sibling instincts are no joke. Devon was protective from episode one of Sirens. She never trusted Ethan. She was reading the situation better than anyone.

Last but not the least, Simone’s anxiety spirals were a way of showing how unsafe she felt all over again. She had this experience as a child, and now she was experiencing the same thing, just in a different way and a different environment. She wanted to feel safe again, and that explains why she chose Peter in the end. She knew she had to look out for herself and protect herself, even if it seemed selfish.

Sirens handed us the map in the beginning itself. We just missed a few clues that said Ethan’s fate was sealed from Episode 1.
