Apple TV+'s breakout spy thriller series Slow Horses Season 5 has bagged the perfect Rotten Tomatoes score (100%) from critics, a week ahead of its premiere on September 24, 2025. Additionally, the show secured another win at the Emmys 2025, where Adam Randall picked an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Season 4 Episode Hello Goodbye.

Slow Horses Season 5 is adapted from London Rules, the next novel in line in Mick Herron’s “Slough House” book series. The series follows Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) as the head of Slough House, which houses MI5 rejects. Each season of the show finds Jackson and his misfit agents embroiled in a dangerous world of espionage and conspiracies that threaten to destroy Britain.

In addition to Oldman, Season 5 will feature the return of the exceptional Slow Horses cast, including Jack Lowden, Christopher Chung, Jonathan Pryce, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ruth Bradley. Emmy-nominated British actor Nick Mohammed will also guest star in the upcoming season.

Slow Horses Season 5 bags the perfect RT score from critics

Gary Oldman's spy thriller series continues to remain a sleeper hit as Slow Horses Season 5 has bagged the perfect Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, a week ahead of its premiere. This new milestone has further increased fan anticipation for the new season, which will see Jackson Lamb and his team of misfit MI5 rejects take up a dangerous case in London.

The 100% RT score from seven critics so far suggests that the series is heading in the right direction, and the upcoming installment will only increase the stakes for our beloved characters. Additional reviews from critics suggest that Season 5 managed to meet their expectations. Critics are especially calling Slow Horses Season 5 the 'funniest outing' of the spy series and feel that the latest season adds a much-needed element of fun to its narrative.

Slow Horses gained popularity after it became an Emmy magnet back in 2024, with a total of 9 nods for Season 3. Will Smith even bagged an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for Season 3 Episode Negotiating with Tigers. Smith's Emmy win proves why fans are disappointed after he announced his exit from the project post this latest installment.

Additionally, the spy series is led by some of the most talented actors in British television, like Oldman, Lowden, Thomas, and Pryce.

What can you expect from Slow Horses Season 5?

The previous season of Slow Horses featured several revelations, especially for River Cartwright. Season 4 picked up a personal mystery for River, who began an investigation after his grandfather shot an assailant. This led him to Frank Harkness, a man who had fathered numerous children with different women and nurtured them to become his followers. One of those children was, in fact, River Cartwright. While the MI5 agent deciphered this truth, Frank managed to go free in the Season 4 finale.

Frank used blackmail material against MI5, who used his services for their dirty work. Frank cleverly used evidence as leverage and managed to buy his release from prison. With Frank Harkness still out there, he could likely return in his son's life in Slow Horses Season 5.

In addition to this blast from the past, Slow Horses Season 5 will also follow a new storyline where Jackson Lamb and his agents will find themselves amid bizarre events and terror attacks occurring across London. The timing of these events suspiciously matches with the arrival of Roddy Ho's glamorous new girlfriend, which makes the team question if their tech nerd agent has gotten himself involved in a potential terrorist attack.

Tune into the Slow Horses Season 5 premiere on Apple TV on September 24, 2025.
