Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 is all set to premiere on July 17, 2025, on Paramount+. Last month, the streaming platform announced that the series will conclude with Season 5. While the fans of Star Trek are looking forward to the next three seasons of the series, they are also disappointed to learn about the ending.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Executive Producer Akiva Goldsman shares that the Star Trek prequel series was always meant to bring the story till about The Original Series. Goldsman told TVLine,
“Well, Paramount+ felt that we had sort of exhausted the appetite for Strange New Worlds after (Season 4)… and we said, ‘Well, remember, we made this promise to the fans that we get them right up to the edge of (the original Star Trek)’. And they were like, ‘Oh yeah, we were part of that promise, too. What do you need to get there?’ And we said, ‘I think we can do it in six (episodes).’ And they said, ‘OK, do it in six.'”
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds follows the galactic adventures of USS Enterprise crew led by Captain Christopher Pike (played by Anson Mount). The series is set in the 23rd Century and takes place several years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series, which originally aired from 1966 to 1969 on NBC, with William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock.
As per Goldsman, Strange New Worlds will conclude just before Captain Kik (played by Paul Wesley) takes command of the USS Enterprise.
Future of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Strange New Worlds’ first two seasons became the most watched original Star Trek show on Paramount+. The streaming platform had announced that the series will conclude with Season 5, which will comprise six episodes. Seasons 3 and 4 will both consist of 10 episodes each. Season 4 is currently in production.
While the conversation around the end of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been making news, Executive Producer Henry Alonso Myers shared that there are still three seasons to go, with more stories in play. He said,
“The audience has only seen 20 episodes... There’s still 26 to go. More than you’ve seen already. So to talk about the end of the series now seems silly for us. It would be like if you’d seen Star Wars and then you went to see the trailer for The Empire Strikes Back, and you said, ‘Well, and now it’s over.’ It is far from over.”
Season 3 of the series will pick the story after the USS Enterprise crew find themselves amidst an intense battle with a Gorn fleet. The Gorn had even kidnapped many Federation officers. The finale of Season 2 also introduced one of the key crew members from The Original Series, Montgomery "Scotty" Scott (played by Martin Quinn).
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 will premiere on Paramount + on July 17, 2025, with two episodes.
